Tips for flying with breast fed 7 month old

Just wondering if anyone has any tips for travelling with a 7 month old? He is 6 months next week, but when we travel to Malaga from London he will be 7 months. I have only very slowly started to wean (just small tastes and textures every so often) and he's just started to have a bit of water (tiny amounts) from a sippy cup. This I thought would help with any issues trying to get him to latch on my boob at airport or on plane whilst also distracting him as he can hold sippy cup etc.

I am really worried about him becoming tired and upset. I have a routine with his naps and just think it's going to be such a long and disruptive day for him. I hate him being upset/stressed.

How can I make it as pain free for him as possible?

I was BFing when I flew with my DS. I fed on take off as the sucking can help to clear their ears. He fed and then fell asleep for the rest of the flight. I really wouldn't worry too much, maybe take a snack or two in case he's awake.

Routines are often out anyway on holiday, he'll soo get back into one Smile

I flew to NZ when my DS was 10 months. I just BF him on demand and he had snacks etc. Malaga is only a short flight, BF on take off and landing and it should all be fine.

@TwoDogs9 thank you!

I'll definitely do that and he will hopefully drift to sleep 🤞🏻

It was pretty hellish to be honest!! Especially the four hour stop in Singapore in the middle of the night on the way home!

Hope all goes well with your flight.

@TwoDogs9 I can I only imagine, but you did it and survived, so to me that's amazing! Ha x

Agree with other posters - try to get them to feed at take off and landing to help their ears adjust and fingers crossed they'll pass out in between! 7 months wasn't all that bad for flying with a baby for us, though 'routines' went out the window. We just did our best to keep him fed and rested when it seemed like he needed it and left it at that.

Now that mine is 2.5 I am grateful Covid gives us an excuse not to go anywhere. It would be hell in earth for us and everyone else on the plane.

Most airports have family rooms where you can change/feed etc. I just flew from Stansted and theirs had 3 or 4 cubicles with comfy chairs for feeding, so you could probably use one just for chilling without feeling guilty that someone else might need to use the facilities.

As for schedules, I think you'll just have to go with the flow for a day. We found a sling invaluable for naps with our 6mo. The plane itself was very stimulating and I don't think she would have napped (DH says he thinks he could have gone with the sling to the back of the plane near the toilets but the best you could get is a short nap, IMO). Yours might be different.

If LO won't drink during take off try a dummy.
