Evening all, I am probably worrying unnecessarily but I guess I'm just looking for reassurances. I have an almost 1yo DS who has been high needs from day 1. Very sensitive stomach, lots of food intolerances etc, teething is just a monstrosity, and it's as if all the forces in the universe have to align somehow for him to be content (for 5 mins). He has met all his milestones so far and has even been slightly ahead for some of them, but he is CONSTANTLY on the move. Hates the car seat. Hates the buggy. Hates the baby carrier. He might last a few mins in them before screaming to be taken out. He hates being changed. He hates getting dressed. Nap times and bedtimes are horrendous because he just CANNOT wind down- we've tried the routines, calming baths, massage etc. It's like he is always at 930202mph and it always ends in tears...and I'm just really worried about what toddlerhood will bring and in particular, possibilities of autism, ADHD and the like. I would appreciate any tips or advice from parents who had babies of similar temperaments. He is very smiley when he isn't melting down and very sociable which surprises a lot of people. Please tell me all of this is normal?

My baby boy was kind of similar. Not exactly though. And he wasn't sociable or particularly smiley at that age. He is now. He is autistic. It's not the end of the world. Once we got the right support life became a lot easier for us all.

I don't know if it's the same kind of thing but I wonder if your son is struggling with transitions. Especially the getting dressed thing. Maybe have an object of reference prior to getting dressed so he knows its coming. Sing the same song each time or play a favourite video on your phone to help him to get through the transition. In the pram we used to just let him watch cocomelons on our phone to make the experience easier for him.

We also removed gluten and dairy to make his tummy more settled. Added vitamins into his diet and took him to cranial osteopathy. It all helped us xxx

You've described my 2.5 yo at that age where I had many worries. Everything was exactly the same minus the sleep as he would sleep and nap but the rest of the day was horrendous. High needs to the point where I sometimes wished I was hit by a car and stayed in hospital for a week where I could rest and with covid going on, it would mean that I had no visitors!

Obviously now I still have a couple of worries which are speech related but it is a bit easier now than last year in terms of being content and able to occupy himself longer and needing less attention from me. He is still difficult yes but at least some sort of understanding has developed. 4 months ago putting him in his pushchair/car seat was a battle and now he understands that we are going out and he just runs and climbs into it himself. 4 months ago walking past a park was a nightmare but now he understands that every time we walk past one it doesn't mean that we have to go and play in it.

My DS had silent reflux, colic and tummy troubles too (extremely windy baby) but it all kind of dissolved after 18 months, this is my experience anyway probably not the same as your lo has intolerances. Getting dressed/nappy change was a nightmare but now he brings his stuff to me. Everything was uphill I mean everything. Going out, feeding, changing, playing but now it's easier minus the terrible twos which I prefer right now compared to last year where he was into everything from hanging upside down to climbing on dangerous things and with the teething, as you have described was an absolute monstrosity. I sometimes wished he had a fever instead of it impacting his behaviour!

For me not a lot could be done as he was still young minus the gut health but behaviour/milestones was a waiting game for me.

Following as you have described my 8 month old son. Feels like such a waiting game as too early for him to have ‘missed’ a lot of the milestones (clapping, pointing etc)
Sorry I can’t offer any insight as we are in the same boat but sending solidarity! It’s bloody hard work 😅
