Dropped all naps - nearly 16 mths

My almost 16 month year old has refused his one nap a day now for almost a week.

He went down to 1 nap a day very early at 10 months.

Does this mean he's likely to drop naps entirely early too? Or could this just be a phase?

Any insight/experiences would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I'm no expert on these things but just wanted to share my experience in case it helps.

My DS is now almost 3y and has not had a daytime nap since he was 20 mths old. He also dropped from 3 to 2 naps then to 1 nap much earlier than all the usual guidance suggests. Nursery tried to get him to nap but no luck there either! He won't even fall asleep in the car unless it's after 6pm.

But he's always slept great at night 12-13 hours so I find that very reassuring. He can definitely get overtired late afternoon and bedtime but generally he seems ok with no nap. I think some babies just have lower sleep needs than others It's pretty hard as a mum not to have that break in the middle of the day though, especially when all your friends' toddlers still nap for 2 hours!

I think 16 months is very young to have no daytime sleep though so hopefully is a temporary regression and he will get back to naps at least for a while longer. I would definitely persevere with quiet time in his cot at usual nap time, or take him for a drive or walk if that helps him nod off usually. Hopefully that will remind him of his nap routine and things will fall back into place. Good luck.

@HummingBirdFly thank you that's really helpful!

My son also sleeps 12 - 13 hrs consistently every night. The mums with babies same age who are still napping twice a day say their DC are not sleeping as well or are early risers..So figured perhaps this was the trade off?

I do still put him in cot at nap time to coax a nap out of him and for quiet time like you say. Which provides some rest bite if not much!

Appreciate your response.
