Possible tooth decay on 14 month old?

Hi,

My toddler is 14 months old and I’ve noticed a little black spec on her first molar. I brush my toddlers teeth twice per day but it’s not for the recommended 2 minutes as she simply will not let me so I do what I can. I’m not 100% sure it is tooth decay as she will not let me inspect it to have a proper good look. I’m leaning towards it is as it still there and I assume if it was food then it would’ve came away by now.

My toddler drinks nothing expect for water and 2 bottles of milk per day (bottle of milk midday and a bottle right before bed)

Up until literally about a week ago my toddler was still having a bottle of milk to send her off to sleep and then into cot so therefore her teeth would’ve been done before her bath.

I’m a first time mum and I honestly feel like such a shitty failure of a mum if it is a spot of decay. Gah!

Is she registered with a dentist? I know a lot of dentists are only doing emergency appointments still but I would hope they would be keen to look at a child so young.

@GrrRightBackAtYou funny you should say that but I can't get an NHS dentist for my 18 month old so I would be quite surprised. I'm not sure that tooth decay shows up as a black speck. I always brush teeth after milk though, saying that I don't think that on its own would cause tooth decay so quickly.

I just read up on it and tooth decay does show up as a black speck, shows how much I know. Perhaps it will be easier to get a dentist if you say they may have a potential cavity?

my dentist saw my young children for checks up so please call as this needs seeing too.

I think with brushing if it means pinning her down to do it then that's what you need to do. Also it's great she drinks water but sugary foods or lots of dried fruit can cause decay.

Don't beat yourself up xx
