Got babies review soon and I ve done the questionnaire today after looking through it a couple of weeks ago and realising then his score is going to be low in the communication bit so have tried to make more of an effort on speech things specifically and he's not improved at all since then .

According to the scoring sheet he's 3 points into "refer child" as he doesn't do da or ga noises or repeat any sounds but the rest of his scores are either on track or quite a bit over it, so wondering if their likely to do anything at this point?

Most likely outcome is that they will review again in a few months.

This is my guess as well although you can ask for a hearing test if you want to rule that out.

This from Talking Point might help to reassure you as well Smile

Goodness no. At least not in my area. My first son was only in the white for one area, but was in the black for two areas and grey for all the others. The HV wasn't concerned and I had to push for a face to face meeting. He is now getting on for 3 and is amazing and not behind at all. We did my second child's 10 months ASQ recently (didn't you say 8 months? We don't do an 8 month one here, but a 10 month one instead?) and although he didn't score as low as his big brother, he was in the grey or black for most things. But we are not worried at all this time as we know how well his older brother has done. Again, no HV seems at all concerned.

In my experience, if you are worried you need to push for something to be done yourself. Although I personally would wait a few months as so much cha gea so quickly! A hearing test is a good shout if communication is really lacking, but there could be a long waiting list. We eventually for our oldest son on a waiting list for a hearing test due to to poor communication but while we waiting (a few months!) his communication came on leaps and bounds so we cancelled when an appointment eventually came through. He's jabbering away now!

@BunnyRuddington

The questions that relate to hearing he gets the full score on, he had an extra hearing test as he had a short NICU stay and no problems there so feel confident with that. For example, he turns when you say his name and looks at the cat when she purrs so he's definitely hearing things said to him, he just doesn't want to say Da or ga or anything similar or copy us but can make lots of aaah sounds and for some reason can make the mmm and fff sounds already.

Yes it's specifically the 8 month questionnaire and he ll be a week off 9 months when she comes to see us.

I have developmental coordination disorder so first hand know anything on the NHS is months to year and if it's mild it's here's your diagnosis and off you go. So I wanted to know what the action a HV should be taking in an ideal situation, so if they say well the wait list is long anyway so we ll wait a few months and then refer if no improvement when it d be better me taking things into our own hands.

Ah, the hearing test , yes - but they can develop glue ear later, which they can be checked out for .a lot of communication issues are caused by glue ear (not my boys though).
