What's so great about 12 weeks?!

Loads of people tell me having a baby suddenly gets easier after 12 weeks but no one has really said why!

Can anyone tell me what happens?! I have a 2.5 year old but can't really remember. I also have a 10 week old (DS2).

We've had a rough ride with colic, silent reflux and cows milk protein intolerance. My DS2 is on special formula, omeprazole and his colic evening screaming is tapering off. Still finding it quite hard though so looking for some hope!

Im v tired and this heatwave does not help!

It depends on the baby but it did get significantly easier after 12-14 weeks with my first born ( at 8 weeks with my second born ) :

He started sleeping through the night

Breastfeeding got easier ( painfree, lasting longer between feeds , was quicker )

He could happily entertain himself while on his play-mat while I drank my morning coffee or made dinner .

Less crying in general but especially in the car and in the evenings

The heat is making everything worse right now 🥵 😭

@EgSk ok thank you that all sounds really good!

I'm not sure if it's the heat wave or a wonder week or he's feeling poorly but he's been super clingy and cranky and not let me put him down for the past 2 days, it's been really hard! Mostly because I also have a 2.5 year old so need to be able to be there for both of them. Also he was basically like this for the first 8 weeks of his life and I was enjoying him being slightly mode settled, feel he's gone backwards.

Hope you are coping with this heat xx

Ah, the "magic" 12 week mark!! Tbh I think the first few weeks are so rough that you have to cling on to the hope that there will be a point in time when things get better!

I guess by 12 weeks they have got their circadian rhythm sorted so theoretically sleep better at night. Also, their digestive systems mature so they might grow out of things like silent reflux. They are also coming to the end of the 4th trimester so are just generally a bit more used to the big wide world!

My DS would only sleep on me for the first 10 weeks... i was in sleep deprivation hell. Things improved around 10 weeks as he stopped being bothered by silent reflux and finally started sleeping in his next-to-me cot. He was still a terrible sleeper but things definitely got better from that point on.

@EgSk @Paris2019 thanks guys... well we hit 12 weeks and.... my baby got covid! Poor baby. Very unsettled and sleep is totally random again. It was just starting to get a little better.

What a nightmare, he's had it 2 / 3 days I'm hoping we are over the worst. It's awful to see him so poorly 😞 he's so tiny still. First illness? Covid-19
