Hi Mums,
I am utterly worried and cant cope with that.
I have talked to pediatrician about my concerns and he proposed to postpone a little way.
He started to walk 11 mo
Currently;
He walk, climbs , runs, cycles..
Very very hyper.
He has an eye contact but very brief.
He responds his name but sometimes ignores too.
He only babbles like "bah" "babun" "ga""ge""aaa aaa"
He shows with his index finger when he wants something but not sharing his interests.
No animal sound at all
He understands me. When I asked him where daddy is he looks at him etc.
But my concern is no meaningful words, no animal sounds, hyper, brief eye contact; are those normal?
He is at home with a nanny who puts masks and growing up with 3 languages

Thanks

If he's multilingual, it's fairly normal to have speech delay, there's a lot for them to process.

Probably not helping, but my 17 month old daughter also doesn't speak yet. Well, she says dada, mama, ati (for cat) and said ball once but nothing else. We speak three languages at home. GP wasn't concerned.

My 18 months old only has a few words and I’m not really worried. I imagine having a nanny who wears a mask all day is not going to help though. Could you find a nanny who is comfortable not wearing a mask or send him to nursery instead.

My boy was almost 27 months before he spoke. He was able to communicate with us perfectly well via pointing and showing so he didn't feel the need. Once he started talking, his speech progressed very quickly. He knew his alphabet and was able to count within a couple of months of talking - he knew them better than his 5 year old cousin.

I wouldn't worry about it right now, if they understand you and can make some sounds, they're ok and probably actively choosing not to talk.

Trust me in a few months, you'll be missing the days when they couldn't talk Grin

My son didn't say a word until 2 years and 2 months. Barely even babbled. Now speaks in full sentences at 2.5 years. Some children take longer. I won't tell you not to worry, as I know the feeling and I worried sick every day. But hopefully take some comfort that there's lots of other children who are the same! 18 months is still very early.

I am abit worries too with my son he's nearly 18 months he does lots of babbling but only really says mama daddy more yea. Maybe sometimes tries to say tractor. He tries to say lots of words but they all come out "daddy" or "deh"
He understands everything I say and is very sociable
I don't really know what is normal as we haven't seen many kids with covid etc but now I'm starting to worry is he behind ?

My son didn't say his own name until he was 2.5. I was really worried but now he is three he's speech has come on leaps and bounds and he talks in full sentences. Easier said than done, but try not to worry too much
