16mo croup

Any suggestions on how to ease croup? Poor little man is sleeping so badly at night when it is obviously worse. Sounds like a barking seal and then cries as obviously uncomfortable and tired. He also napped badly today which didn't help as I was hoping he would compensate for an awfully disturbed night with a longer nap today but no such luck. He seems fairly happy in the day but night is just not fun! How long does it last?

How are things now? Hopefully getting better?

@BunnyRuddington pretty much the same. Thanks for asking. Days he seems ok but the nights extremely unsettled poor chap.

Steam - take him into the shower room with the shower going? Or one of those cosmetic steamers they used in spa salons ?
Humidifier if you have a dry atmosphere.

Sorry for your wee man. Had it as a child so only my mum’s recollections to go on, so can’t really say how long it lasts.

@hrp2020 hoping your lo is well on the mend now mine has been struggling on and off I've thought it has gone twice now in the last month then it's back. She's the same perfectly happy throigh the day but night time hideous I have her propped up on a pillow. Steam used to be the advice but I don't think professionals advice it anymore I've been told cold air so I rock her right next to the window wide open she's had 2 lots of steroids and early last week doc said she had to sort herself now but I'll be ringing on Monday if not 111 before then it's horrible and scary

@mrssunshinexxx so sorry to her that. It is so horrible when they are unwell and such a worry. Thankfully our lo is better now. We needed up buying a vicks humidifier which really helped. They use humidifiers in hospitals and was recommended by a doctor friend. The moist air helps them breathe over night. Was money well spent so perhaps worth investing in?

Thanks will look into that @hrp2020 she currently has a calpol plug in , cough syrup vix on her back chest and under her nose and window open all night it's horrid

hrp2020 · 11/07/2021 17:20

@mrssunshinexxx definitely give it a go. The calpol vapour thing didn't work for us sadly although I thoroughly enjoy the smell!
