19mo hitting πŸ˜”

Help please!!
My 19mo DS is too physical!
Sometimes it seems to be well natured / curiosity / friendly but just too rough, but more and more he’s just violent!

The β€˜friendly’ πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ version is stuff like grabbing another toddler at the park and hugging them to the ground, or touching another child’s face but roughly.

Other times he grabs another child’s legs on the climbing frame, hits other children in the head / face.

It’s been a few months now and getting worse. For context, he moved from a childminder to a nursery a few weeks ago and hasn’t transitioned as well as I’d hoped he would. He doesn’t do this there as far as I know but seems β€˜up in the air’ since moving. Nothing else I can think of that’s different. It’s more likely when he’s over stimulated but can never really be trusted around other children at home / park / soft play.

He does sometimes do this with me and dp. Our response in the past was β€˜ow. No don’t hit. gentle, gentle…’ but this hasn’t gotten us far. Since last week I’ve started leaving places after one warning when he starts hitting….

Any advice gratefully received!!!

Btw he’s gorgeous a lot of the time too!!!

I think it's pretty normal but you're right it that he sounds as if he needs a bit of guidance.

This article from Dr Sears should help Smile

No advice just sympathy as I’m trying to deal with this issue too.

My 18mo daughter is exactly the same, although she doesn’t hit but bites and scratches. She grabbed my friends child’s face and left a small mark and I was naturally mortified, even more so when my friend decide to post a photo of her child’s mark on social media and tag meπŸ™€ I feel worried to let her interact with other children as she’ll all of a sudden grab them or be rough, it’s never done with any malice but obviously isn’t ideal at all!!

If you here any good tips then please do shareπŸ™‚
