hello everyone,
i need some help about my concerns.
my ds is 22 months old. he has so many words, can count to 10 in two languages, knows colours, knows most of the animals name, knows some shapes, if i say show me he would show most of the stuff. loves his food, smiles to other kids. he loves cuddles, would run and give me a cuddle and big smile.

however,

he doesn't respond his name, he calls his daddy but never says mummy, doesn't share his toys or joy with me he loves to play himself. most importantly he doesn't take any command. if i say bring to me he would not do it. he is not listening he always busy with his own things.
if we go park he would easily leave me and run away and would not care where am i.
he has repatative behavior. runs up down in the room or lay on the floor and watch his car.

we took him to doctor and she thought there is some red flags . for example when he was there he just run in there didn't even look at her or didn't get worried where is he or where is daddy.
didnt look at his name .
when we said but he does all this good things as well she said she is not there to look for positives she needs concentrate to negative things he does.
she said she cant say he is autistic but she thinks he is in spectrum which i dont undertand what is even that mean.

i am very very confused. please share your own experiences.

He's still very young, it sounds like there might be some red flags but I'd give it a bit more time to see how he develops. I guess the doctor was saying she thinks he's on the spectrum but she can't diagnose him as autistic as she's not qualified to do that (I'm assuming you took him to a GP and not a specialist?) saying she needs to concentrate on the negative things he does was a strange and inappropriate thing to say though IMO.

actually she is a specialist but i assume she thought he is still young and need speech therapy which i dont really understand because he has so many words . i was not there he went to doctor with his dad and how she talked actually not help at all!

In terms of following commands do you think he understands what you say and chooses to ignore or doesn't understand? I think not listening or wanting to do his own thing is fine but not understanding is more concerning. If his speech is good he probably does understand.

if i show him do like this-and lucky enough to take his attention-he would just copy me and do it. but when i say go bring this book or bring me your toy i dont think he understands me . it is hard to say because i feel sometimes he just ignores what i say and carry on what is he doing.

My son is similar and I've been worried about him. But sometimes just out of the blue he'll do what I ask him to do and I'll realise he knew all along. My son has a speech delay and only says a couple of words.

He's also 22 months

Hi @ellielucas I have taken him to see two Paediatricians and a speech therapist, all of whom say he has no signs of autism. I also took him to an ENT for hearing tests and a dentist to check for any problems with his mouth. No problems there either. He has an experienced nanny for two days a week who also isn't worried. I'm starting to think it's me that's the problem here as no one else has concerns including my husband.

My main concerns are speech delay and poor response to his name. His understanding of language has come along very quickly as has his non verbal communication. The doctor said his language will come quickly when he starts nursery in two weeks and if not go to a speech therapist.

It is perfect then you dont need to worry at all. Speech can come late if he is not doing amy other things you try to relax x
