Evening everyone, my 3yo dd, is due to start school nursery in sept, she doesn’t speak (at all) she’s got great understanding though. She’s under S&L and also awaiting an autism assessment.

She currently attends a small pre school nursery which she really enjoys, I’m just a bit apprehensive about her starting school nursery especially with her no speaking.
Has anyone else’s little ones been in a similar situation? Did you find nursery helped?

At 3, the other kids will adjust to her easily. Nursery will definitely help her to develop faster...being around other kids is very valuable.x

Does she have to go to the school nursery? Could she stay where she is for now?

Ted0301 · 15/06/2021 09:24

@BunnyRuddington no she doesn’t have to, but I just thought it would be nice for her to settle in first before she starts full time school next year. Plus I thought school nursery May do a bit more with her than the little pre school one. But I’m also worried incase she doesn’t settle or like it and I lose her place at pre school nursery Confused

Knowing what I know now (my kids are 13 and 16) I'd say keep her where she is.

She's got enough on her plate....she needs to be kept happy right now and she'll do better with any speech therapy she gets. If you uproot her and she doesn't settle, her language won't develop as well as it might do.

Lots of kids don't attend the school nursery class.

Following as my son is 3 months 3 years (see my recent post actually if u want) and he's saying words but not really putting 2 together. He's been at an independent nursery since he was 2.5 and it's helped him so much. He goes 3 hours a day. He will stay in the same place for another year but as from September this year he moves into a room with the older kids and then sep 2022 he starts school

@sadmummy12345 i would happily leave her in pre school nursery if there were different age groups but it is such a small independent nursery they only have one room with a mix of all ages. Which is why I’m thinking school nursery would be more structured for her. She only goes to current nursery 2 mornings a week. Where school would be every afternoon xx

Just be warned that she might find school nursery a bit hard. Once DD was in school we had lots of meltdowns at home, and still do...
