I have the same concern on feeding and sleeping. DD is 5 days old. Everytime after feeding (most of the time dozing off while feeding), she would only sleep for period no longer than 5-10 mins, before waking up and crying. I have no choice but to feed her again, and the cycle repeats itself. My nipples were terribly sore.
The only way we could get her to sleep for long period is holding her. She wouldnt even take laying down next to us. Throughout the day, she would have a long sleep on her own for (max 1 - 2 hours) and that was it. Both dh and I are so sleep deprived.
Since two days ago, we resorted to topping up with formula (sore nipples, and the breast milk just does not have time to replenish itself). 3 days is really early for top-up, but not sure what else to do.
Everytime after feed on one breast, she seems so full and dozing off, within minutes she would be crying and I give her the second breasts and then the third time, follow by a top-up. Now we can get her to sleep longer (2 hours and more frequent).
What are we doing wrong and what can we do? I always thought that newborn sleeps non-stop during the first few weeks, at least the first few days.
