Hi - I just wondered if anyone knows of any good online tests for ADHD. Ive looked at a few sites but cant to find anything.
I first wrote about my twin DS1 6 months ago. His reception teacher really didnt like him and was v negative generally but did raise the issue of ADHD. We decided to wait to see how things were in yr 1.
His new teacher is excellent. Shes v positive but still has concerns about his concentration and social/emotional immaturity.
We've decided between us to wait until after christmas before taking things any further with drs etc but in the meantime I obviously want to find out as much as possible about ADHD in the meantime. Am also planning to start DS on fish oils.
Id be really grateful for any info.

My dp's son with his x had the same thing going on from the sound of it - He went through a phase where his school didnt like him very much and he went on a bit of a downward spiral of bad behaviour etc. He was about 4/5 at the time i think. He was seen by all kinds of docs and health visitors, social workers etc and they decided to 'label' him with ADHD, put him on all kinds of medication etc then eventually turned around and said it wasn't ADHD at all, he was just having a bad phase!!! I think sometimes its a bit too easy to label simple things with a label. I would try out your own remedies and use your instincs before rushing to the docs. Hope it works out

hi,just to say i my son of 8 1/2 was diagnosed with adhd at the age of 7,after 4years of promlems, and did 7months on a hostiptal day unit, one day a week, and to be honest it was the best thing that has happend,he now gets extra help in school and seems to be doing well, and yes he is on medication but not ritalin,so it dosent make him like a zombie,it just helps him concentrate,my younger son is also being tested as its past through males,he is 6 1/2 and they really do not like to diagnose before the age of 7,i have tried the eye q fish oils for 12months or more but with no results,i also tried diet but i was told it would not make any diffrence, but im a mum of 4 and will try anything that may help.

Read an article recently casting doubt on fish oils having any effect on behavioural probs. I guess no harm in trying but don't pin all your hopes on them.
An excellent new teacher sounds like a very good thing anyway.
Good luck

My DD was diagnosed with ADHD at 9 after many years of being told she did not have it!!! I tried natural remedies myself first before she was actually diagnosed such as fish oil and a herbal remedy from a company in America that use Native Indian remedies. Both worked for a little while but gradually they do lose their effectiveness. My DD is now on medication and her behaviour is much better although not perfect. All I can say is that if you suspect that your child has the condition, push to get it diagnosed then at least you know what you are dealing with. My DD's school life and life in general greatly improved after she was medicated. Although I dont really agree with her taking the medication I felt that it was a last resort for all of is as we were at the end of our tethers. I have tried her without the medication briefly in the school holidays but after a few days the difference was unbelievable and I soon put her back on them again. The medication she takes is a form of ritalin but it does not make her zombie like, it just improves her concentration for 12 hours. We have noticed though that as she is getting older her behaviour is gradually improving more and more so I hope that one day she may not have to take the tablets any more.
