Advanced speech

Hi. My just turned 19 month old uttered her first clear word at ten months. A tad smug it was mummy. Since then she has accumulated more than 300 words, can recite nursery rhymes from start to finish, can count by rote to twenty and recite most of the alphabet. Is this usual? She's putting five word sentences together such as She is wearing a hat. It's bonkers and not a brag but I'm just wondering how advanced that is? Perhaps it's not?

Why do you need to know at 19MO? I know very precocious speakers who did average at school and kids who didn't utter a word until much later who do very well at school. She's obviously not behind by any means so just enjoy her. She's doing well no doubt but no good comparing because you'll still get people on here swearing their kid could recite shakesphere at 12 months anyway Grin

Definitely sounds advanced to me! Clever thing Smile

Get that totally. She's my one and only as an older mum, and I guess I just wanted reassurance that I'm not thinking she's advanced unnecessarily. Thank you for bringing me back to earth.

OP can you dd read words yet?

Sleepyone1 · 01/06/2021 21:35

That does sound advanced. Most likely her peers will catch her up though, but enjoy being a proud mum (just don't go bragging about it too much at baby groups or claiming you have birthed a genius, people who do that are really annoying)

OP I'm honestly not saying don't be proud of your dd. She wouldn't be speaking this well if you weren't doing right with her and she wasn't a smart little cookie. I'm just saying don't allow other people, and total strangers at that, validate your beautiful child. They all learn different things at different rates. My dd didn't speak especially early but could do a 50pc jigsaw alone by age 2.5 and ride a pedal bike no stabilisers a few days after turning 3. I wouldn't let ANYONE else convince me that my perfect little girl is anything but a bloody genius Grin Just enjoy your dd she sounds awesome xx
