Does this sound like ASD? What can I expect?

I wish I had a crystal ball! I’m desperate to know what to expect from my 32 month old daughter’s development so just looking for experiences.

She has been referred for speech & language therapy by nursery due to not responding to questions & talking out of context (repeating lines from books or TV shows while playing. Sometimes there is context but often she’s just blathering on to herself 😂).

After some work at home she will make choices and will say yes please when I ask her if she wants something. She will also respond to questions about things we’re looking at (what colour is the ball/who is that/where is the fox). But more spontaneous/less structured questions (did you have fun at nursery, what have you got for breakfast etc) she won’t reply or might just repeat the last few words.

She has a lot of words, but a lot of it is learned from TV etc and she wouldn’t use them spontaneously, but sometimes will adapt the “learned” phrase to match a situation.

Are we dealing with potential ASD here, or “just” speech delay? She has good eye contact, follows instructions (when she wants!), interacts with us etc. She does love an excitable jump but unsure if this is just excitement or something more.

I’m just wondering if anyone else has had the same and can tell me how things panned out for them.

Nobody can really say OP and that's why it's so hard. The fact that she has good eye contact and follows instructions are good though.

The main thing to remember is that she's still the same little girl you've always loved and not to focus too much on outcomes and what will be in the future.

There's no way to predict and children can be very surprising.x

Thanks Fortune. I know all you’re saying is right, and my husband says the same - and of course she’s loved and supported no matter her outcomes. I just find it so tough with the unknown and what it could mean for her at school etc. I think I’m fairly certain after reading a lot yesterday that she is ASD, so now to just tackle it with as much help and support as we can.
