6 month old wants to sleep on his front. Should I be worried?

My 6 month old DS has never been a good sleeper until the last few days when he suddenly started sleeping for much longer stretches. We couldn't work out what the change had been until we realised he was using his newly learned skill of rolling over to turn over in his cot during the night. He seems to be sleeping much better on his front but I'm really worried about the risk of cot death....am I paranoid....? Any suggestions?

we;re having similar issues, only generally he doesit when in our bed, not his own cot !

he seems to be ok though, i have noticed that on the few occasions he buries his nose in the sheets, he automatically moves his head tothe side.

As far as I am aware, if they can roll over themselves they are fine

I used to leave mine if they rolled over, it used to really annoy them to be constantly put back on to their backs!

Just watch out he doesn't get too hot, esp if he can't roll back again yet to cool off.

Both mine slept on their fronts as soon as they could roll over. With my first I used to flip him onto his back but I just disturbed him & within 10 minutes he was back on his front.

I've read that babies don't sweat and often feel warm but if you are worried you can tell they are too hot if their backs/head feel clammy to the touch.

Once he's capable of rolling over then sleeping on his front is fine. I don't even bother putting ds down on his back any more as he would just flip over.

Good point about the overheating forkhandles, I hadn't thought of that.

ds started rolling at 13 weeks and sleeping on his front. I spent a couple of nights in a panic rolling him back but in the end sanity prevailed and I figured that as he could roll back he would be ok. I think by six months it's pretty normal for them to want to sleep on their front.
