5 month old straightening legs

TASW · 20/05/2021 19:53

My 5 month old has over the past few weeks started to straighten his legs and throw head back. When I try to get him into a sitting position he straightens his legs and fives himself into more of a standing position. Also if he is in a sitting position he'll sometimes throw his head back and try to lie down. Little bit worried about it to be honest. Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks

My first DS did this a lot. I was really worried (had dreadful postnatal anxiety) as googled it and lots of stuff came up about scary things of which he has none. He is a perfectly healthy three year old now. He was always a slightly stiff feeling little boy but hit all milestones as expected. If your little one is otherwise okay I really wouldn't worry.

Thanks so much for your reply. This is really encouraging and I'm so happy your little one is fit & healthy. How long did this go on for if you don't mind me asking? Thank you!

Maybe a couple of months max. I think once he could sit independently he realised it was pretty fun and stopped trying to get out of that position Smile

Oh that's good! Hopefully the same with my little one! One thing I've noticed with him too...not full days but parts of the day where he doesn't want to engage with me, usually when he's not long woke up from his overnight sleep. Just seems a little vacant, was this similar with your little one? (Sorry for all the questions) Smile

I'd say that is perfectly normal too! Babies can get over stimulated and not engage. Used to take my DS about 20 mins before he was "back to reality" as my mum used to say, after a nap. Try not to worry. I suspect you've been googling and have found the same things I did at the time and it worried me too but honestly you don't need to.

Oh and my baby had terrible eye contact just to add to all of that - he used to look at my mouth all the time rather than my eyes. Again this hasn't turned into anything concerning. He's a bright and sociable little boy now

My daughter did this all the time from 3 months to 6 months. She is 7 months next week and has only stopped a week ago as I think she realises sitting is fun!!

Omg I remember when my DD would do this, I was trying so hard to get her to learn to sit unaided to help with reflux and she wasn’t having any of it! I was also super worried but turned out to be nothing to worry about Smile

Yes this seems to be what others have experienced too, it's really encouraging and helps put my mind at ease. They have you worried sick don't they.
