boys playing nuturing games

Do any of your boys play nuturing games ?

My 3 year old is currently breast feeding his teddy, changing it's nappy, looking after it when it is sick or crying. He tells us about when his tummy was big, and then his baby came out (on questioning he told us it was a baby teddy !).

This is a big theme in his play at the moment. Our youngest are 21 months - I don't think he really remembers when we were doing all this with them. We have recently visited 2 sets of friends who have babies about 4-5 months old, and he has seen them breastfeeding etc.

Just wondered if other boys do this (don't know why I should thing it would just be a girl thing ).

My 2.9 yr old ds will love his teddies, feed them, change nappies and put them to bed. That's when he's not running the over with trucks, fliging them around the room or scaring tem with dinosaurs!

My ds of 4.5 has been pregnant at least twice! and when I was pregnant with dd I got him 2 babies so he could get used to the idea, and he loved putting them to bed, and pushing them around in a pushchair. He has to wrestle dd for them now!

He also loves his cars, and all the typical boys toys, etc. but is starting to get an idea of what girls toys are when he sees pages of them in catalogues like argos.

Dd loves her dolls, and teddies and is well into pink, but loves crashing cars with ds.

God just re read my last post. My typing is so bad I could be Coddy!

My 3 year old ds is regularly pregnant too at the moment. Says he has a big tummy and that a baby is coming out. Then he abandons 'baby' and goes back to fire engines and cars....

throckenholt · 03/11/2004 12:35

yeah - when teddy isn't being nursed because he has broken his leg he is likely to be being flung across the room .

DS's other passions are agricultural machinery (he knows all the intricacies of a combine harvester - I now know more than I ever wanted to !), and trains.

Hiya, I think it's lovely that your son has taken such an interrest! My three year old ds is the same. He has a doll that he adopted from when i was a childminder, he gives it cuddles and says he's it's daddy. Most days she goes with him everywhere. But when he gets bored with her and wants to play with something else he tells me she's tired... so he's going to play with his train track while she has a little sleep! Other days 'll find he has wedged her head first into his toy box, but hey! We all get it wrong sometimes! I know what you mean, it's not what you'd expect as such, even if you don't see anything wrong with it, just think what a nice dad he'll become in the future!

Good for your DS1, T'holt. That is so sweet. Most of the extended br'feeders I know say their DS's do the same (you know my DS1 is not into cuddles). However, apparently my DS1 was the only one in reception class who chimed in about Mommy's milk to the question "What do babies eat?"

DD has tried to br'feed her toys, but she seems to enjoy trying to tuck them in and swaddle them up, more. I wonder why that is .

My ds2 is almost 3.5 and still plays a lot with a doll that belonged to ds1. He takes her for walks in the buggy, feeds her, changes her clothes etc. She is his baby. It is adorable. This is between being a very noisy spiderman and playing kung fu with his brother. The dolly game is definitely my favourite

Arabica · 04/11/2004 10:56

My DS is 3.5 as well, loves taking his baby doll for a walk in his buggy, and regularly tells me he has a baby in his tummy. He also makes babies out of his cuddly toys. Last week he got me to make him a baby sling out of a muslin cloth, so he could take his polar bear baby out for a walk. And he feeds them daddy milk. Worryingly he says he wants me to have another baby. In fact, he wants twins. He's even got names for them!

miranda2 · 04/11/2004 11:27

My ds is 3.3, and I'm pregnant - every morning when he wakes up the first thing he says after 'hello mummy' is 'here's your baby' (a toy panda). Panda - or 'baby', gets checked for chickenpox regularly, tucked up in bed, fed milk etc. Dh told him yesterday he'd have to support its head, and ds came in to the bedroom cradling the panda ever so carefully! Very sweet.

Good - I am glad hs isn't the only one. It is the dominant theme in his play at the moment (has been for about 10 days I guess) - it is really sweet .

Zebra - I blame you (and Rachel) - he has seen you with DS2 recently !!
