Child Misbehaviour at school

My son is in year 7 and I have been battling with schools for years on and off regarding his disruptive behaviour and only one teacher was able to get the best out of him, back in year 2. He's at a supposedly great school, but all they do is call me to say he has been playing up in class, teasing other students, he does get teased back, and no focusing. He tends to make friends with children who want to mess around and loses good friends. He is very sociable but I feel really lacks in self confidence although appears very confident. He is about 2 years behind in his ability and that is because he was left behind when in primary school. Yes, he is adopted that should not define him and the school are supposed to have a great pastoral department! To me they have no idea of how to adapt to different children and their behaviours. We have had CAHMS involved, a school therapist, local educational social workers, it's endless and no progress. I try and get him to talk to me but getting a conversation started with a pre teen boy is so tough. I feel like I am letting him down and it's all so depressing for him and me. I just don't see how getting detention all the time is helping.

I understand how hard that can be. Have you tried calmly explaining to your son that if he can’t change and quickly, you will have no choice but to take him out of this (very good) school? I did this and calmly showed some pictures of a couple of really challenging looking schools and asked him if he liked the look of them. Pretending that this would be his class. It sort of ‘popped the bubble’ for him and he realised how easily he could be away from all the people he knew and was so comfortable with. Just and idea and maybe worth a try? You can repeat as necessary.

Sounds like a good idea to show the photos. I have spoken to but not shown anything that may make him feel that it really could happen.
Thanks for the idea!
