hi I'm new to this but I have a 8 week old baby ,everything started off fine, breast feeding going well, she is my 3rd child so i thought i knew everything!!!!!!!!!!ha ha at 4 weeks she stared to pull off my breast and cry all the time whilst feeding,so i thought my milk was drying up so i put her on the bottle as i don't have time to sit there for 1 hour and try to feed her as i have the school run to do!!!!bare with me,anyway put her on the bottle but the same thing happened she screams when she starts to feed.the doc thought reflux and prescribed zantac but it's doing nothing.she sleeps really well though and is happy otherwise but the hot weather is coming and i'm afraid she is going to dehydrate.she is only taking between 400-500mls a day.if anyone has advice please drop a line.we've already ruled out thrush and tongue tie.sorry to bore you all but this is all new to me.

We also went through this with my dc3 - reflux, thrush, colic etc. Never fully got to the bottom of it but colic seemed the most likely explanation in the end. Is your baby very windy? I really feel for you - I had all these high hopes for breastfeeding but it was just awful trying to feed a struggling baby (especially in public) who seemed to hate it. We had no success with bottles either so in the end I persevered with breastfeeding. I think around 4 months it got much better. My dd's weight gain wasn't great so I assume she wasn't drinking very much during that time. We just sort of got through it - lots of winding, doing nothing except feeding and winding when the other kids were at school! Once she was older her weight gain improved but she's still quite little so maybe some babies are very small eaters. Probably someone else will have something more constructive to offer you but I wanted to let you know we also went through this and it did improve in time.

thanks KTNoo at least i'm not alone,I sometimes wish i hadn't stopped breast feeding but my milk has dried up already so thres no looking back now!but she isn't that windy though ,I just burp her and rub her back while she is screaming because thats all i know how to sooth her a bit.when she eventually takes the bottle she falls asleep its so frustrating but thanks for your comments.

It does sound like reflux. Can you have a pH probe done? That way you can get a definite diagnosis and know whether it's worth trying different drugs for it.
