My 15 weeks baby girl has just started sucking thumb to sleep but she takes it out as soon as she falls asleep and doesn't do it otherwise( which I guess could develop later)

My question - should I cover her hands with mits? That could of course stress her out and she will then have to learn to put herself to sleep because right now I can put her down and she falls asleep herself.

Or should I just carry on wait and deal with it later on

I also don't want to stress her out as I know this is a natural behaviour. Giving dummy is an option but my health visitor is saying I'll be creating a new habit and she might stopping sucking thumb on few months

I am just after other mums opinions x

You can't really stop a baby sucking their thumb, short of cutting their thumb off! So as that's not really feasible I don't think there's anything you can do. Is not harming anyone and she's happy so I wouldn't worry.

Omg don’t cover her hands Grin think yourself lucky that you won’t have to find and plug her dummy back in 106748 times a night because she will always be able to find her thumb and hopefully soothe herself!

My DS started sucking his thumb around that age. He's now 5 months and still sucks it, but not as much. It never occurred to me that it is anything other than normal?!

Please don't take her comfort away from her! She's only a tiny baby.

My daughter had a phase of sucking her thumb in the early days and then just stopped of her own accord after a few months and has never done it since. Her sleep was great during that period too - I loved it!
