bedwetting and blackcurrant/Ribena - any connection?

My DS luckily is only a very occassional bedwetter (apart from when DH is away but that's another story!).
DH and I think we've discovered a link though between his bedwetting and drinking blackcurrant or Ribena. t could of course just be a coincidence but we wondered if anyone else has ever noticed a link.

I've just had my daughter to hospital for her wetting and they told me to avoid giving her ribena/blackcurrant because they can cause infection. x

secur, yes I have explained to him. A couple of days ago I put him back in pull-ups at night and he was mortified, just couldn't cope with the wet sheets any longer, when he started wetting we resorted to lifting him to avoid putting him back in nappies but recently he has started to wet the bed after weeing when lifted. I have explained that when we get 10 dry pull-ups in a row we will take them off again and to do that he will have to help Mummy by drinking loads during the day and then only having a little drink at dinner time and nothing afterwards. The poor wee soul must have drank all his liquids in one sitting today because when I picked him up (early because we were going to the dentist) he needed a pee urgently about 6 times in a hour. I was glad he was a boy this afternoon as I was shoving him up alleyways left, right and centre, he would never have made it to the public loos on time!

Oh and I agree about the real juice just wish it wasn't so expensive in comparison to the stuff made from concentrate. TBH I think this whole thing started when I got a bee in my bonnet about him drinking too much juice and decided that my children were only going to drink water or milk and juice would be a special treat when out and about, this was easy with DS2 who only drinks water but I think DS1 decided if it was only water on offer he just as well not bother.

Ds1 always wet the bed 'til very recently - we were referred to an Eneuresis Clinic in the end. The Nurse there said to avoid squash, citrus drinks like orange juice (even pure orange juice), fizzy drinks and chocolate as they are all known bladder irritants. Don't know if that helps or not..

Another real baddie is apple juice - avoid anything contianing apple for 3 weeks. Any child over 7 still bed wetting is very likely to have a food intolerance which should be checked out. Good luck.

THANK GOD!!!!! Our first DRY night for weeks. Only 1 day in to no blackurrant squash, so could be just coincidence, but thank you thank you thank you. If we've cracked it I will love you all forever! .

Makes me little worried that I have been innocently giving her something so irritating for so long. God, what else does she have that she can't tolerate?

secur, thanks, we stopped lifting him about a week ago and have put him in pull-ups at night now. Getting him an appointment at the Dr is on my list, I've had a sick bug and have put everything on hold. He has however had two dry pull-ups in the last few days, we are getting him to drink loads more during the day but here comes the next problem! I picked him up for School today and his teacher stuck her head out the door looking rather flustered and I was horrified when she picked me out of the crowd as the Mum she was looking for. Turns out DS1 had just wet himself and she wanted to speak to me about the amount of times DS1 is visiting the toilet (a new development since increasing his fluids). She said he is leaving the classroom about six times a day even although she is encouraging him to go at break and lunch. I did explain what we have been trying to achieve and she seemed to understand but I have agreed to cut the volume of fluids a little, perhaps we've overdone it a little . She also said that one of his drinks beakers had suddenly burst and started spewing juice across the carpet so I had to confess that it had been in the dishwasher when it wasn't dishwasher safe .

Fantastic news about your DD pinkmama!!!
