25 month old son no words - should I worry?

Hi!

My son is 2 years and 1 month. He says mama, dada, no, and yuck. That's it. He's said other words in the past but they seem to have been lost. Other than this, he appears to have no other red flags or developmental delays and his understanding is excellent. We have a visit from the HV next week to assess and see if we need a speech therapist.

So, what I am looking for here are stories that'll reassure me, rather than what to do next which we're already taking care of. For example - did anyone have a child speak as late as mine and then go on to speak fine, with no other developmental delays?

Thanks so much,
Stephanie

I have a friend who's little one hardly spoke until 2.5 and now speaks very well. My own LG didn't say an awful lot until about 21MO and then it all came flooding out and now age 3YO you can't shut her up lol. We're looking into getting her SLT just because speech still isn't very clear but otherwise she's doing amazing. If he's otherwise developing well and especially if he understands well then that's really encouraging but I think you're right to seek HV oppinion and SLT. Good luck xx

Just a message to say I'm in the same position with my 21 month old..

I'm also similar with my nearly 22 month old.

I'm hearing more and more people say they are worried.. I'm thinking maybe all the lockdowns and the pandemic hasn't helped
