8 month old baby wont sleep at night help

My daughter is 8 months old and has only slept through the night a handful of times. Im running out of ideas and im seriously tired, any suggestions welcome. She has various comforters and dummies in the cot including a ewan the sheep. She wakes up at least 3 times a night and will only go back to sleep on me or in my bed which is not ideal. I have tried letting her cry which I know some people dont agree with but it worked with my first, but she ends up waking my older child up. It doesn't matter how much sleep she has in the day or how much she eats/feeds she will still wake. She will only nap on me or in the car pram in the day too. Has anyone got any other tips, im exhausted!

What sort of routine does she have at the minute?

Pep12 · 05/05/2021 07:04

Wakes from 1am, at 4am she has a bottle and then sometimes goes back to sleep til around 630/7. Breakfast 8am, 30 min nap around 10 then wakes and has a bottle. Lunch 12, then a nap again. Bottle 3ish, tea 5ish. Then I have to get her to sleep on me around 730 and give her milk while asleep or she won't drink it x

How much in terms of solids is she eating during the day? (For example, 2 ice cube size portions per meal) and how many oz of milk?

Do you have a wind down routine of an evening and if so, what does that look like? X

Sorry I've just re-read your original post. Scrap the above! Totally not helpful.

My daughter (also 8 months) went through this. I researched everything and tried a few different things and now (touches wood) she sleeps great.

Main things we looked at were:

Food - we make sure she has at least 2/3 ice cube portions of food at each meal and a minimum of 18oz of milk per day.

Night time routine - We had to get super strict on this. We put all her toys away and might read a couple of 'That's not my...' books before we take her upstairs and get her bath ready. If you're going to try anything like this (if you haven't already) then I would say don't give her any bath toys especially when trying to establish it. She'll be in the bath for about 15 - 20 mins. We then take her out, take her into her bedroom with the lights dimmed low and white noise playing through Alexa. I highly recommend a GroLight bulb! We get her dry and give her a quick massage with some moisturiser. Then it's in her sleeping bag, quick brush of her hair before she has her last bottle of the day. At this point, our little girl conks out and its a battle to keep her awake enough so that she gets placed in her cot sort of awake! We make sure she burps and then she gets a kiss, lights are turned out and that's it.

She has 2 naps in the day. One about 11 and one at about 3. When I take her up for those it's curtains closed > white noise on > sleeping bag on > kiss and I'm out the door.

Basically we make sure she's full to the brim and knows it's time to go to bed.

Apologies if you've already tried all of the above, I can only say what worked for us Flowers

Shes a pretty good eater and eats 3 good meals a day. Shes never been good with her milk from having reflux but I dont think it makes a difference how much milk she has. I pretty much do all the same except a bath every night before bed. I tend to bath both children every other night together after yea, so I might try doing hers every night before bed on her own. I dont think I've helped myself because she doesn't like sleep I let her sleep on me in the day and fall to sleep on me for night time so im going to stop that as well. Thank you x

I'm sorry OP it's absolutely brutal. We had this with DD2 until she was 18 months. She was waking so much and for so long that we were getting about 2 hrs sleep a night. Honestly in the end ...we co slept. It's the only way we could make it through.
Good luck and all I can offer is my support because it really is so so fucking difficult!!!

Its so hard isn't it. My first loved sleep, still does. really hoping she starts sleeping for when I go back to work! 🤞🏻x
