10 month old does not want milk

Hi guys,

I am new on here and just wanted some advice.

I have a ten month old son who seems like he does not want milk. When he was younger he had a tongue tie and suffered with reflux which got better by 7 months. However, as i am a first time mum i did not know he was suffering with reflux so i fed him whilst he was asleep from 3-7 months. He never took much milk probably about 25-30 on a good day. At 6 months he was point blank refusing the milk and i was given medication to help which it did and he began to drink milk awake however this soon stopped and again he was drinking a little in his sleep. I changed his milk to Hipp and he began to drink again however the last two months he has not wanted the milk or bottle. If he sees the bottle he moves his head away and gags when he tastes the milk. I have tried lots of formulas and cups but it just looks like he has associated the bottle with pain and hates the taste of formula. I do give him a lot of yogurts and cheese sauces during the day and vitamin drops but i just worry as everyone around me have babies his age that are still drinking so much milk. I tried a bit of cows milk with him a month ago as a drink and he came up with a small nettle rash around his mouth for ten minutes. However he seemed to like it.

I just wanted some advice as i worry that he may not be getting the nutrition he needs without the formula. He does eat well otherwise and loves water.

Thanks

Sounds very much like it could be an allergy to the protein in the milk, especially with the pain and the rash around the mouth.

I'd have a read of this from Allergy UK and speak to the GP. They should be able to prescribe a suitable formula and refer to a Paediatric Dietician.

If you do get a new milk from the GP, try adding vanilla essence or nesquik and the taste isn't always the best Smile

Thank you so much.

It is strange as he is fine with cheese, yoghurt and cows milk in food but when he had it as a drink he had the reaction. My HV advised it could be a intolerance which he will grow out of as he gets older. I will speak to my GP. Thank you again Smile
