Since there are so many speech threads today, and I have just seen Moondog posting, I thought I would ask a question that has been bothering me all day.
DD is 5.7yo and has been sent to a speech therapist as she is not pronouncing certain sounds properly. (which our kindergarten were surprised to hear as they reckoned that she was fine for her age). The SALT keeps going on about the fact that DD answers but does not talk much. She mentions it every week, that she is disappointed. DD speaks during the games that they play, or if asked a question but does not volunteer information.
I feel it is a strange situation for her. The SALT sits behind a desk, DD sits there looking like she is in a job interview. I just do not think that she feels comfortable sitting at a desk.
Is this normal practice? I would have thought that the SALT would get down on the floor or at a little table. It seems so formal and adult.
DD is a bit shy with strangers, she chats ALL THE TIME at home (nono, does not get on my nerves one bit!!)
