She's just turned 3 and I've just started reading quite a bit about it as I'm still not convinced her speech is where it should be... I hadn't fully appreciated that this initial consonant deletion can be a sign of a more serious issue? Is it an issue just if she does it at all or if she does it all the time? She speaks in long sentences and I'd say has a fairly wide vocabulary and can produce quite a few sounds and is becoming increasingly more understandable. However I'd say she still misses the start of lots of words (eg she'll say 'oo' instead of you and 'ainbow') To add a bit of context she was an early understander but a late babbler (didn't really babble until 11MO) She recognises a lot of her letters and understands how to read (eg will sound out a word if she's in the mood and if it's a word she knows tell you what it is and if you sound a word out slowly for her will usually be able to tell you what the word is too) However she struggles to make a lot of the letter sounds or mixes some up eg b becomes p. She is curious and social and sometimes has good eye contact but often seems to want to avoid it which I think hasn't helped her with speech production. She does a number of other speech errors such as mixing up consonants (eg my becomes dy) and blending consonants (elephant becomes efant) but I'd say is fairly understandable to strangers even although has moments when she gets annoyed as even I don't have a clue what she's saying lol. TIA x
