Hi! I just want to ask all parents about my child who is 2y3m old, is there a lot of traits towards autism?

1.	Speech delay - there are words but no two way communication
2.	Tantrums
3.	Love making noise like grunting
4. Very much like 123, abc. If there is a number song on the TV, his fingers automatically follow
5. Don't like wearing diapers/clothes. It's a bit of a struggle to get dressed
6.	Eye contact can be seen in 1-2 minutes
7.	If i called his name, he can very much look at me except when watching TV
8.	Can understand simple instructions
9.	No flapping hands
10.	Can play toys correctly
11.	If he wants something, sometimes he points, sometimes he takes my hand and tells me to help
12.	Only want to wear the same shoes, cannot change to new shoes

P/s: english is not my first language so excuse my grammarGrin

Have you had his hearing tested recently? Has he had any ear infections or other illnesses?

Really? Are you in England? Does he react if you make a loud noise when he's not looking at you?

alia12345 · 16/04/2021 13:50

I'm in singapore. I did, he will look at where the noise come from. He also can imitate every words that i say but can't use it on any conversation

Is he being brought up in a two-language family? That can often cause a short speech delay...it rights itself though as the child grows.

Yes, it is one of causes he has speech delay. The point is whether he has characteristics of autism or not? 😕 what do you think? I just got home from his therapy session, his therapist said he has tactile sensory issue

I was going to say that the noise making and the shoe issues do sound like tactile sensory issues. Like he's over-sensitive. How is he with loud noises like hand dryers and vacuum cleaners?

A sensory issue doesn't automatically mean autism by the way...one of my DDs has sensory issues and I do too.

Neither of us is autistic. The fact that he points, understands instructions and plays appropriately is good...his language as you say is part due to two languages at home.

Look for some clothing with no seams...seam free clothing is great for kids with sensory issues.

Ahh i see, what activities did you do with your dd to tackle the sensory issues? My ds has no problem with vacuum or blender sound.

I didn't....there's no tackling sensory issues. You can't really cure them....only manage them. Teaching your child as he grows to remain calm in the face of sensory issues is something you should do.

Sometimes they fade off a bit as children get older.
