DS screamed in terror as I was sick - will he be traumatised?

This really was the lowest point of parenthood so far.
DS (13 mo)and I have been ill with a D&V bug that's been doing the rounds - I've had more vomiting, he's been blessed at the other end.
Anyway - cut a long story short - he pooed quite impressively on Friday, so i stripped him and hosed him down, then ran a nice bath for him (he loves his baths).
While he's sitting in the bath, I was overcome with nausea and was violently sick in the toilet - it seemed to go on and on, and all the while, DS is stood, clinging to the edge of the bath, absolutely screaming in terror (I'm getting upset writing this).
His eyes were wide and there was such a look of horror and fear, my heart nearly broke.
In short, I'm worried that he'll be traumatised and have an issue round vomiting - I was sick later that day, and he heard me through the bathroom wall and started crying again, even though he was with his dad.
He seems to be alright re baths, but I've never seen him so ............. oh god...it was horrible.
Any thoughts?

Maybe it was the unusual noise?I am sure he will not remember in years to come.Try not to worry XX

No advice, but didn't want to read & not reply.

Hopefully at his age & not being exposed to it each day, it will not have any lasting effects on him.

Poor boy! Hope you feel better soon!

LuckyUnderpants · 12/11/2007 00:19

oh no poor ds, and poor you! just dont make a big issue out of it im sure he will forget in no time, next time you bath him do a funny dance and sing next to the toliet so he remembers you being funny and happy there instead of being sick

Thats all i can suggest really, its crap i know

Skribble · 12/11/2007 00:21

The good thing is he knows you are Ok and he saw you survived being sick. Good idea to make sure next bath time is good fun and reasurring.

he was just upset to see him mummy being poorly/ doing something he has never seen before. he will be fine I'm certain of it I understand why you are upset by it though.

I'll tell you why...

I had a really really shitty day last week with pain. My Dd was really crying about something... i just couldn't cope and burst into proper hysterical tears myself... I was sobbing and sobbing... she was so shocked, she stopped crying immediately, and came over and put her cheek on mine. Bless her the look of shock on her face, I felt SO awful, it made me cry even more!

Then on friday night, DH called me to say he was not able to get home this weekend and had to stay up north with work as he'd been put on call as an emergency... I cried again, and she just sat on the floor, sniffing... like I was... in a what seemed to be taking the piss kind of way So, i know she wasnt traumatised, as i had thought, by my hysterics last week

he'll forget it soon enough... it can be traumatising to the strongest of people, adults too, to see someone puking their guts up... please dont worry

DD was about the same age and got extremely upset seeing me being sick. I think it was just shock at the suddeness and I was VERY ill. Now she is 4 and she came into the bathroom while I was being sick and recently and I was worried about her seeing it but she rubbed my back saying "you're alright darling" when she was so young she really had no idea what was going on but since then she has been ill and very sick herself and knows it is something you get over so she just behaved the way I do for her.

notmyselfnow · 12/11/2007 13:16

ineedacleaner, aww bless your dd pating you and saying 'you're alright darling' , thats so cute

ArmadilloDaMan · 12/11/2007 13:18

ds used to do that - get really upset.

Last time I was sick (he's now 3) he tried to grab the bucket off me to see what I was doing while asking a million questions

He'll be fine

minouminou · 12/11/2007 16:05

Thanks, guys. I think he's forgotten it already - it's just, you can't imagine anyone looking that horrified and not remembering it!
He's having a bath tonight - a proper one, not a hose-off-poo bath, and i'm sure he'll be just fine.
