Hearing at 14 weeks

My little boy is currently 14 weeks old.

At his 12 week check I raised concern that he doesn't respond to any sound. When you talk to him you get no reaction unless he has already seen you. Today I took him into the clinic and they tested his hearing and said they are concerned so they are going to refer him on. I have been told there is a chance he can still hear but they aren't sure at this point. He did pass his hearing test at birth.

Has anyone had any other similar experiences to this?

My first son was responding to sounds and everything around this age which is why when they asked me at his 12 week check I raised the concern

I read today that turning their heads to new sounds that are out of their view is a 4-6 month milestone. Does he respond to any noises in the background (eg go very still or change expression when a door slams etc?) Did he have the typical startle reflex as a newborn when he heard loud noises? Does he calm down when he hears yours voice whether he can see you or not?

I'm no expert but have had concerns about my 20 week (17 week corrected) son who doesn't actively turn to sounds outside of his immediate eye line (eg if you squeak a toy next to his ear) although he will quieten down and listen to them. It's good you're getting further testing though. I'm going to see how the next month goes.

@Foreverbaffled if a door slams or anything near him nothing happens there's no reaction at all not even a slight flinch or change jn eyes he only responds to me if he can see my face and copy my facial expressions

No real experience but just wanted to add that if there is a problem, even if it's glue ear, you can join the NDCS for free.

Hi, I definitely second the pp and recommend getting in touch with the NDCS. What are your next steps? More hearing tests?
My son is deaf, and wears cochlear implants. He's 2 and is such a happy, funny crazy toddler and is starting to talk. Try not to panic, and remember that even if he does have a hearing loss then there is lots of support out there and the technology these days is unbelievable and getting better all the time. X
