except on her knees .

Will cruise along furniture, but crawls everywhere, or walks on her knees. Very cute, but not very practical.

Is this normal? She was a late crawler, but is super efficient at it now.....

Trouble is, she is full of energy, and crwaling round the park isn't really an option.........

my DS was a late crawler
cruised around furniture for ages

at 16.5 months i picked him up from nursery and he was walking and that was it

fizzbuzz · 10/11/2007 19:36

But she won't stand alone either

but she is cruising and weight bearing
My DS was very wobbly standing and preferred to hold onto my hand before he walked

if you are concerned, i would speak to your HV

Lots of babies don't walk until 17/18 months and later

bubbles4 · 10/11/2007 19:41

my ds never walked until he was 21 months.he never crawled but shuffled everywhere on his bottom.he never put any weight on his feet until he was 16 months and when i asked my gp about it, he was unconcerned and said he would do it in his own time.

TheQueenOfQuotes · 10/11/2007 19:46

DS1 cruised round furniture from 11 months (I had to stand him up to do it though). NEVER crawled, and could only roll in one direction (which meant when he reached the otherside of the room I had to pick him up and turn him round so he could roll back again). When he was about 14/15 months he finally learned how to pull himself to standing to cruise the furniture....and finally walked about just over 18 months,

colditz · 10/11/2007 20:00

This sounds pretty normal, especially as she has found a way of moving and carrying things.

Takeadeepbreath · 10/11/2007 20:54

My DS is nearly 22 months and is still not walking alone. She can cruise the furniture amd can walk using a walker (trolley with bricks/toys in) or when holding hands.GP is not concerned and said that they do all develop at different stages. As long as she is moving and seems happy there is nothing to worry about, she will do it when she is ready. It is only us that worries when we notice that all the others seem to be doing it earlier! As everyone tells me, enjoy them at every stage and don't wish the time away, she will be walking for a very long time!

Feenie · 10/11/2007 21:02

I can beat that - my ds is 22 and a half months and still not walking! He cruises and walks holding my hand when he feels like it (rarely) but won't do it alone. GP said they won't worry till he's 2, and that since he clearly can weightbear, but won't, is not worried. I'm not worried - what can anyone do, you can't make him! - but definitely feel conspicuous with my immobile toddler!
Anyone had a toddler not walk as late as this, or are we heading for a record??!

mawbroon · 10/11/2007 21:15

Feenie, my ds finally walked at 20 months, but his cousin was around 22 months before he got going.

fizbuzz, my ds didn't stand without holding on until he took his first steps at 20 months. He took two little steps one day, and then the next day he was walking up and down the kitchen. I used to let him crawl round the park. He had a little boiler suit to stop him getting absolutely filthy. It was very cute.

Swedes2Turnips1 · 10/11/2007 21:34

My dd did not walk til about 20 months (I have forgotten precisely). She has just turned two and is out-running some of those who walked at 10 months. A lot of the mothers whose offspring walked at 10 month,11m, 12m, 13m etc used to ask me if I was worried. I sometimes felt like saying, not worried but bored, bored of this conversation. I should really ask those same parents now if they are worried that my daughter can run faster than their child. That would be too silly.

fizzbuzz · 10/11/2007 21:39

Well thanks for all advice, she is obviously just waiting to walk.

Mawbroon, I have let her crawl around the park, and she goes wild when I let her. But there is sometimes glass in the grass, and I'm scared of her hurting herself.

Also she ALWAYS makes a beeline for the tarmac as well

Think yourself lucky - my DS has been walking, running and "Supermanning" off furniture since 12 months.... early walking is not all it's cracked up to be.

My DD didn't walk until 16 months by which time her language was better so she understood "Oven is HOT" or "Not out of the door", other safety instructions...

Clary · 14/11/2007 23:42

hah! bbmummy that's a good point about later walkers understanding language better, also the risks inherent in bombing down the stairs etc.
(speaking as a parent of one later and one early walker)

Also IME later walkers often talk v well earlier FWIW (eg because theyhave to ask for a drink, can't race and get it).

fizzbuzz if she's bearing her weight that's the key thing at this stage. NT parameters for walking unaided 9-22 mo IIRC.

lazymoo · 14/11/2007 23:45

My HV once said babies either talk or walk, they are better of learning talking skills and walking later, as late walkers are more intellegent. Never quite sure what to believe with that statement, but I thought I would share.

nappyaddict · 06/12/2007 10:48

my ds is 17 months and not walking. my gp said the upper limit is 30 months and then they get worried. i've known babies walk as late as 28 months with no problems. one was 29 months but he had hypermobility.

OComeOLIVEfaithfOIL · 06/12/2007 10:50

dd1 walked at 16 months (I think)

dd2 was 22 months

do not worry!

jacobandlysetteandabump · 06/12/2007 10:53

ds walked at just under 16 months - cruised for ages and didn't do any of the taking a few steps, walking from one thing to another, just got up and was off - 25 steps in one go over and over - relish the non walking while it lasts

fizzbuzz · 06/12/2007 11:38

She's started walking now.............

me23 · 06/12/2007 11:42

really! see nothing to worry about! my dd didn't start walking till she was 16.5 mnths and didn't crawl until she was 12 months.

MsSparklingXmasTree · 06/12/2007 11:55

I wouldn't worry about it. My HV says if she is not walking by 18mths come and see her, other wise don't worry.

My dd is 14mths now and is walking around the furniture but isn't walking without holding on. I get the annoying "is she walking yet" comments from people now and that bugs me. My dd crawled at 10mths and so i had "is she crawling yet" comments for ages too. Grrrr.

jacobandlysetteandabump · 06/12/2007 12:54

she was just testing to see how long you could go without worrying
