Anyone know much about Asq scores?

Help I'm confused!

My daughter has always been behind on speech, around 18 months she had a hearing test which was all fine. The health visitor suggest I call pretty much as soon as she turns 2, so they can start speech therapy if necessary.

Now she's 23 months and (I thought) made quite an improvement, so I downloaded the 24 month Asq assesment to see if it was really necessary to call soon. Well she scored low on everything!! Only the problem solving was in the okay area.

The thing is, she has a multitude of other health problems and is regularly seen in Pediatrics. Not one doctor has ever mentioned she was delayed, aside from her speech. But then I suppose they don't see her doing things like climbing stairs or jumping.

Are these things really accurate? We haven't seen many other parents/children in lockdown, but I'm still surprised I've missed it if she really is delayed.

Hi.

When you say she doesn't score well do you mean she is in the black or grey areas? Grey still counts as "passing". Also is she at the beginning of the age range? They seem to span two months on the whole. I know my son would often be in the grey bits at the start and then would be passing by closer to the end of the age range.

Sorry you're having to worry though.

Firstly, I think it's very positive that you've seen her make substantial progress. I also agree with @Foreverbaffled, if she's only just 23 months and in the grey areas, I probably wouldn't be too worried, but would reevaluate in a few weeks when she turns 24 months. They're still at an age where a lot can change in a month.

Perhaps also have a look at the 22 month ASQ – if she's in the white for that, that would suggest to me that she'll probably be there or thereabouts on the 24 month one when she turns two. If she's scoring in the grey or the black on multiple categories on the 22 month one when she's turned 23 months, yes, I'd probably want to speak to the HV about a developmental check (or perhaps to someone at paediatrics, since she's already seen there?).

Hi thank you for your replies! She has only just turned 23 months.
In the 24 month questionnaire she was in the black for all but one. I've just done the 22 month questionnaire and she was in the grey for all but one.

The 24M ASQ can be taken until 24M and 30 days, that's an extra two months to where she is now - two months in the life of a 23M year old is a huge amount of time from a development point of view.
