16 month old concerns

I am really concerned about my 16 month old development, hope someone can advise
Only just started to commando crawl not walking or cruising yet, no pointing or waving.
No interest whatsoever in messy play, hates having anything on her hands such as bits of food etc
She does babble and clap and will explore her toys, never shows anything to me
I did the mchat test and she scored 11, which apparently is high!
I have raised my concerns with HV and she was seen by a pediatrician at 15 months, no concerns but to review again at 18 months.
I have a phone appointment with Dr today about something else so should I mention my concerns then?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Did she see the Paediatrician because of concerns about ASD? If so, I'd just wait for your review at 18 months. I can understand that waiting might be hard but it does sound as though she's already been referred.

It might be worth having a read of some of the posts in the SN Section to see if there's anything in there that might be useful.

Thanks for replying, no she was seen due to lack of physical development and they said to wait until 18months review
Will definitely look at some of the posts on the SN section thank you 🙂

My son started doing these after 18 months and I am 100% certain that he isn't. A lot can change in 2 months op, don't stress yourself too much but of course it's good that you are watching.

I'm in a similar position to you at the moment with my almost 16 month old son and I am worried sick.
He is walking (only started a couple of weeks ago) didnt crawl till he was almost 1 tho,but he is not speaking and rarely babbles, doesn't wave or clap, no response to name at all. He will play will toys but no imaginary play and doesn't show or give me anything when asked. G.p has referred him for speech and language assessment but said the waiting lists are long and in the mean time I am just getting more and more anxious as everything seems to indicating autism.

Have you done the mchat test debs? It should give you a good indication of the risk of ASD.

debsrose56 · 23/03/2021 18:41

Hi bunny, yes I done the mchat he scored 13😕 x

@debsrose56 believe me they do things literally overnight. 16 months is still very young. When I was doing mchat at that age, my DS2 scored high as well but now I have no doubts as he is doing everything age appropriate. You mentioned your DS started walking recently, he is most likely concentrating on that new skill he mastered and will go onto the next set of skills when he is ready. I'm not saying he isn't but for my incase I was worrying endless during 14-19 months as well and he suddenly clicked. For instance he had 10 words at a push couple of months ago when he was 22 months and now he has over 100 words and this literally happened overnight. Raise your concerns with your hv but also don't forget he still has time before it becomes concerning.

It's worrying isn't it! The mchat test made me think a bit more when I did it and she scored 12. I have a Drs appointment tomorrow so I shall report back. I find the HV is kind of fobbing me of sadly

The MCHAT should be done at 18M and 24M, before then it has little value. It would not be unusual for a toddler to fail at 16M and pass at 18M.
