Child been at the nursery for 5 weeks and mother received a small book of photos and these comments on how 3.7 months is doing, under various headings like "expressive arts", "literacy" etc. Please could you quickly read through and say whether you think the comments show that all is ok, or whether there might be developmental delay to keep an eye on, or anything else which jumps out? Names are changed:
"I passed Alex (3.7 months) a colour and he said "that's pink".
"Alex said to his key worker that's "m" phonetically and then he said "that's w" alaphabetically when looking at letters in the water"
"Alex said to key worker in the garden "let's find another one" when looking for a ride on bike"
"Alex enjoyed tennis with tennis teach showing good coordination and balance when holding the racquet with a ball on a cone"
"Alex enjoyed painting his hands, his key worker showed him what to do then using the paint brush in his let hand alex independently painted his right hand, making hand prints on the paper"
"Alex counted alternately with his key worker up to twenty from 13, his key worker said "13" and alex said "14" etc. When his key worker said "19" Alex then said "twenteen", this was when looking at a book and counting how many trees were on the page."
"Alex helps Janey (another child) make "chocolate cake" out of lego (they both are pretending it is cake)"
"Alex came and held and adults arm saying "come and see my cooking" he opened the oven door in the play house and said "it's in here". The adult sat down and said "can you cook me something" Alex said "oh it's burnt" the teacher said "what have you cooked me?" and Alex said "it's a big chocolate cake" Alex took it out of the oven again and said "you eat it all up";
"Alex enjoyed building using the large wooden bricks. He said "this is my old rusty pipe" he then picks up a small one says " this is my small pipe". Alex then picks up a bigger one and says "this is my big pipe, a water pipe"
"Alex settles quickly when entering nursery, he independently chooses his activities enjoying construction, small world and role play."
"Alex is independent when using the toilet and washes his hands thoroughly. He occasionally needs a little help with his jeans/trousers to unruffle them at the waist band."
