2 and a half year old won't eat after choking incident

My 2 and a half year old had a bit of chocolate last week, a bit when the wrong way and caused him to panic, cry and vomit. Ever since he's been scared to eat, he has started to eat little bits past few days ham, bread, sandwich, cheese, bits of fruit but not as much as he used to eat before. He drinks the blue milk and water fine. I contacted the doctor and they said they can't do anything and to just keep offering him food he will eventually eat. I'm so worried that he's not eating enough , he's fine in himself . Any one has been through like this ?
I've tried cutting food in shapes, pretend the toys eat with him etc
When I offer him food he says he will sick and choke Sad

Oh poor little love. I can imagine the worry but I think the dr is right, you just need to try to be patient. Sounds like he needs help processing what happened and lots of talking about it, you making for him that he choked and he was scared, and now he’s feeling scared to eat again. Telling him it was sad but just an accident and it’s safe to eat. Since he’s eating a bit he’ll be getting by, try to relax yourself (not easy I know) as hell pick up on your worries. The amount that small children need to survive is amazingly tiny.

I would go with soups, yoghurts and porridge etc... offer plenty of reassurance and gradually increase the texture of the food. Say "see soup is safe", "see, porridge is safe"... gradually build confidence again. Hope that makes sense!

Take him right back to sloppy food - yogurt, porridge, soup, custard, jelly, mashed potato, puréed fruit etc... to rebuild his confidence and add lumps and chunks gradually.
