15 month old always cries when waking

Hi everyone,

My 15 month old has always cried when she wakes up. Google usually says this is because LO hasn't had enough sleep but it doesn't matter if this is a 30 minute nap, a 1hr15 nap, or a 12 hour overnight sleep - she always cries as soon as she wakes up. I've seen it on the monitor sometimes - she's asleep and still, and then suddenly her face just crumples and she's crying. She doesnt get soothed by us going in and cuddling her or talking gently to her. The only thing that settles her is a breastfeed, but we're trying to gradually wean now. After her PM nap she is especially sensitive, even after a bottle, and she pretty much stays grouchy until bedtime, regardless of how good the nap was.
I'm in that place we all know too well where I'd be ok with it if I knew for sure it was ok but I always worry that it's 'not normal' as other babies I know of seem to wake up and play in the cot or babble to themselves but my daughter always just cries and always has done. Health visitor just said to check with GP that there's no reason for pain/discomfort but other than that wasn't sure what the reason might be. My daughter does have silent reflux, don't know if that could be linked, although she still cried on waking even when she was on omeprazole. Really hoped she'd have grown out of it by now.
Has anyone else had this? When did LOs grow out of it?

I have a 15 month old who was very similar up until a couple of weeks ago. He always cried when he woke up from naps and also in the morning. However, he has always calmed down pretty quickly when picked up! Anyway in the last two weeks he has started to babble and play in his cot for a little bit before crying (not for too long but maybe 10-15 mins if we are lucky). We haven’t changed anything in his routine so not sure of why we have had the sudden change. So it might happen very soon and very suddenly!

My Dd did this and just grew out of it, I think it's fairly common!

My 14 month old is the same. No clue if it's normal... But seems to be common judging by the other replies
