Dd1 (12) seems to have developed "selective" hearing. I am fed up with talking to her and not getting a response. I even had to check with dh that he didn't think I was going deaf. Her teachers haven't mentioned anything so I am assuming she doesn't have a genuine hearing problem. (Although I will be making arrangements tomorrow to get this checked out)
Her room's a bloody mess-at this rate she won't have any clothes to wear as I refuse to go in there to retrieve washing.

AAAARRRRGGGGHHH!!!!

(I feel better now , although I expect somebody will tell me what an evil parent I am.)

This sounds soooo teenagery (that a word?) Very much like my sister. Let the clothes get stinky, she'll soon wash them.

I am thinking that parents of teenagers may come along and tell you that this is merely a sign of things to come...

weebleswobble · 06/11/2007 21:33

Ahh yes...pre-teen heaven. I'm so there with you. There's a mountain of dirty pyjamas behind their bedroom door. They'll be sleeping in the hall soon

i am soooo glad my kids are nowhere near puberty although everyone seems to have "selective" hearing in this house when i ask anyone to do something DS is only 2 and he has started shutting his eyes if i ask him something. its like if he cant see me then its not happening

theslownorris · 06/11/2007 21:37

I've got a horrible feeling that half the clothes on her floor are were clean . I admit that I'm not the tidiest person in the world but even I have standards .

Yeah my DD1 is nearly 3 and has perfected selective hearing in the last year. I've got to the point where I just go REALLY close to her and ensure she can't ignore me, but guess yours is a bit old for that! All to look forward to I suppose...

Hello missus - welcome to the joys of teenage girls!

Don't worry, I've got enough to do without clearing up her mess. I've just shut the door on it so I don't have to see the tip! Oh well, by the time dd's 2,3 & 4 become teenagers we'll have it sussed .

we have this with ds1 he is 13

What we did is went in and gave him a sleeping bag and took away his duvet. Took away his bottom sheet as he never tucked it in and pulled it out anyway. Ditto pillow cases
Stripped his room of everything non essential, leaving his uniform only and underwear
anything else he had to ask us for.

He lasted one day and begged and reformed.
since then he will tidy well enough to keep me happy most days

Piffle · 07/11/2007 11:11

and we went in with big balck bin liners and just turfed everything on the floor into it and hid it.
His first job after swearing reformation was to sort through it all

whoops · 09/11/2007 21:10

Do what Mum did once - put all my stuff into bin bags
