how to get 2 year old dd out of her beloved highchair?!

My 2 yr old dd is wedded to her highchair even though she is too big for it now, problem is that I want to start using it for 6 month old ds soon. At the moment I feed him in his bumbo chair at a separate time to her, really want to do meal times together now though and don't want to have to buy another high chair!!

We got her a booster chair which she loved for a while but is now refusing to go in it any more - I think she knows she is going to have to give up the high chair!

The very mention of her moving out of it results in huge upset - any ideas for how to tackle this very welcome!!

I have never had to do this as from a young age my charges have always sat at the table, rather than in a high chair, however I would just remove the high chaor from the kitchen and sit your daughter at the tablem if she acts up explain she is a big girl and that she now has to sit up at the table like mummy does, and show her how to sit well - don't keep getting up - if she keeps getting down etc then sit her back at the table again and again if needs be - then once she has conquered sitting at the table - move the highchair through to the kitchen and put your baby in it - maybe talk to your daughter about babies needing high chairs etc

Is she cottoning on to the fact that the baby is going to take "her" high chair? She might be feeling a bit put out maybe? Perhaps you could "prettify" the normal chair, a few ribbons/tassles etc to make it special. Just an idea.

I've always fed mine at the table too.

Ikea have a great kitchen chair for kids. Perhaps you could let her 'choose' it?

You can fix a waist strap if you think she will fall (she might well do tbh)
