Raspberries!

I've noticed that for the last month both my twin DSs (8 months) have been blowing raspberries! It's not a problem but I was wondering if this is a sign of one of their motor developments. I've looked in books but have found nothing. I forgot to ask HV last time I saw her so was wondering if the wise MNers could enlighten me.

TIA

I would say its perfectly normal. Most children I know seem to do that around that age.

My DD ... 9 months next Wednesday ... is a champion raspberry blower ....
I have no recollection of DS blowing raspberries like that but I am not worried about DD's development at all ... I believe it is normal.

Yup - ds blew raspberries all the time when tht age. Do they do it when you are trying to feed them something colourful, like carrot? Amusing until you have to clear up

First precursor of speech, Uhu (that's the developmental rationale for this amusing habit). Shows they are starting to use their tongues for activities other than eating.
Ds' childminder many years ago, whose first language was not English, said rather indignantly that he spent a lot of time "pushing strawberries"...

Thanks all! They do it randomly so when we are out walking and they do it at the same time a stranger passes, it's a case of "Beam me up Scotty!"

I'm worried because dd (1year) has never blown raspberries. It's normal to blow them btw. I'm hoping it's normal not to as well.

Marina · 29/10/2004 14:29

I don't recall seeing dd do much in this line at all, Hercules, and she has several words and lots of babbling at 14 months...I think how much it is done varies a lot.

vict17 · 29/10/2004 14:30

My ds is doing that at 6 and a half months. It's like he knows it's a little bit rude cos he doesn it when no one is paying any attention to him

hercules · 29/10/2004 14:36

She's nearly 13 months and has no words.

vict17 · 29/10/2004 14:39

sorry hercules - didn't read your post and now it sounds like i was bragging which i definitely wasn't iykwim

MrsBigD · 29/10/2004 14:40

my dd never was much of a raspberries blower but loves doing it now with tongue sticking out,,, age : 2yrs10mths... and talks like ut's going out of fashion, so wouldnt worry

@hercules hi. It’s a very old post. But I currently have same worries. Do you remember if your child ever blew raspberry eventually or if not do her language progress wel? Or any neurological issue?
