Hey
My little man has strabismus. We noted this before he was one year old. He's had many tests etc, brain scans etc all were ok. He has been seen at the off-shoots IE Moorefields.

He also turns his head side ways.
The strabismus is noticeable when he is unwell/etc EG cold and has tontsilitus.

He is a bit slower than most toddlers in reading and writing but can count up to 100 etc and knows what the muber mean ie asked to pick ten balls he will get ten. He can say his alpahbet most of the times, runs and plays likes most kids.

We are worried and the last appointment was 3 weeks ago buy not the main doctor nor last time and we have been told no eys patch needed we will monitor.

Does anyone else have or know of a baby/toddler that has strabismus and looks sideways when reading, watching tv etc?
We do have private medical care for him but this was taken out at the age of one, ie a few weeks after we first reported to the gp re eye so not covered.

We are worried and lost as most of the thing I've read are that the earlier this is tread ideally by the age of two the better the result.
Thanks

So there is no issue with the sight but an eye has a squint?
My dd had a squint op around the age of 4 but was also long sighted and wore glasses

dementedpixie · 24/02/2021 22:50

Patching is normally used if one eye has poorer sight than the other and it forces the eye to work properly

Emma2021 · 24/02/2021 22:59

Thanks to both of you. Yes, they tell is his sight in both eyes is good, but has squint

Has anyone mentioned the possibility of surgery?

Emma2021 · 25/02/2021 09:23

Hello again. Thank you. Yes they talked about the possible options
should they be required that was nothing, patch or surgery.

Moorfields and their off-shoots are supposed to have the best doctors, so I'm lost.

Thry have told us a few times glasses not required.

If eyesight is not affected and they don't need a patch or glasses then surgery might be best then. It just adjusts the eye muscles to make the eye sit straighter and helps the eyes work together

Emma2021 · 25/02/2021 13:04

Thank you. That is what we thought so why the delay?
We will ask them next appointment.
Anyone here had a child or now of someone close that had the surgery and what age please.

Also, it's rare but did they also side ways glance as well.
thanks again.

My dd got glasses for her squint at 18 months old and then squint surgery age 4. Her eye turned inwards

Emma2021 · 25/02/2021 13:36

Thanks. With the op, was the eye condition resolved, please? Thanks
