Hi I am not around to respond to any messages left. But I am after any advice on how to help my Son. Someone has suggested that he may have mild aspergers.

He has obsessions with time, is very angry and depressed. These are a few of many symptoms.

His behaviour is awful especially to me.

Does this sound like aspergers? I also think he could be dyslexic, how do I get this diagnosed?

Many thanks for any advice you can give me.

r u in london ? there are various autistic societies around that can help you, natioanl autistic society can help you,
my son has mild asd , hes also obsessed with time eg.he wants to know what ime it is constantly and plans his days out ahead every day, needs to know whats happening when and how etc, he gets angry and frustrated very easily and has major meltdowns, he gets very annoyed /worsening behaviour around my husband as i know how to bring him out of it..sounds familiar?
school help him with planning his activities and what will happen that week , that day etc.. his handwriting is appalling, and he acts as though hes in a hurry all the time, has endless energy..very tiring!!for me!!

I am still here, Charlie just had a major tantrum about me not putting a bandage on a burn, he is obsessed with having something wrong and wearing bandage, using crutches etc.

He has gone to bed saying he is going to kill himself and always does everything wrong.

What am I supposed to do? school just say he is playing the system.

No I live in Eastleigh, Hampshire

It sounds as though you need a proper diagnosis in order to know what the best apporach may be. There is a triad of impairments that are present in Aspergers

some info here

I would def follow Whizz's advice re getting a proper diagnosis. Check out the National Autisitic Society website too as it has a defenition of Aspergers on it.
I'm quite shocked by school saying he is just playing the system - that's really cynical. In my experience a diagnosis does make a difference to attitudes, it certainly did for ds and means that instead of fighting a battle against him the school works with him. The change/progress since diagnosis has been phenominal(sorry spelling block!)

All children want to succeed - sometimes they just need a bit more 'help'.

Hi 1legmummy, if you have serious concerns about your son, you need to get a referral from your GP to see a paediatrican. The paed will assess him and refer him to a psychologist, occupational therapist, speech therapist or whoever to get him sorted. Make sure that you list everything you feel is odd or difficult about your son's behavious and take that to the GP. Be prepared for a long, drawn out process though. I live in Hampshire too and it took 18 months to get a dx of mild AS/dyspraxia for my son. That doesn't necessarily mean that you won't get help all that time, just that the dx too a while.

How old is your son? The school should be able to refer him to an ed psych. for the dyslexia. How do they find his behaviour? I know they say he is playing the system but is there anything he does at school that he doesn't do at home that you can tell the GP about?

As others have said take a look at the NAS website link here It has a list of symptons but it is unlikely that your DS will have all of them. I would even go as far as to say my DS has very few of them but some of his behaviour can't be explained by anything else so I suppose that is why he got the dx.
