Do babies need to roll?

I know this sounds like the stupidest question but is it a problem if they don’t? DC2 is almost 10 months old and has yet to roll either way. I always though rolling was important as a pre-cursor to crawling (?) but she can crawl, pull up, cruise around furniture, walk with a walker and climb up on a step. So am I worrying about nothing? She’s got to roll eventually, right?!

Had the 8 month call with the HV and she scored low on this area obviously but was fine for everything else, have another one on Friday so just want to be prepared.

This is new for me as DC1 rolled as a means of transport from room to room from 7 months!

Rolling is important if they get themselves onto their belly on a soft-ish surface, to prevent suffocation. Your baby probably can if they can crawl already. If you give them tummy time can they get out of it themselves (even if that's getting up onto all fours)? If so I don't think there's anything to worry about!

Yes she can get herself up to crawling position from tummy time and then to sitting. I don’t think she can move off from her back though. I swing her legs to show her how but she’s not interested.

Is the Walker she has one she is sitting in? Rolling is important as it is important to rotate the trunk can you play games and try and get her onto her side and then gently facilitate rolling. If it a Walker you stand in that could have hindered trunk rotation as well.

@Anothermother3 no it’s just a push along one. I will keep trying to encourage her but after speaking to the HV I’m not too concerned.

Okay push along is better than the other sort but the less ‘equipment’ the better. Your little one will be fine it’s just preferable so thought I’d give a bit of info as it’s related to my profession and my lovely toddler was being a pain last night so I was stuck in the dark with her 🤣

Thanks @Anothermother3! TBH we haven’t encouraged the walker, it has toys on one side of it she likes and she just pulled herself up one day and starting pushing it, had no idea she could do it!
