6year old not listening

I'm currently caring for a 6year old she's distant family but have known her since birth
We are a large family so used to caring for children.
However I'm really struggling with her she does not listen and not in a disobedient way either she's actually very sweet and shy.
It's as if she's vacant when your talking to her or she forgets what you have said/ asked 30 seconds later.

It's at times like she had no commons sense (I do appreciate she's 6 haha) she struggles with very simple tasks like getting a glass of water or when i say put the dishes in the sink, she just looks at me like wtf .
Today we was waiting for a lift I was stood behind with a pram, the doors opened for the lift I had to repeatedly say walk in walk as she just stood there looking at me . I know thats a terrible example it's just hard to explain. Or she struggles to locate obvious items when out shopping, tasks my 3year old will do.

Is this just normal 6year old behaviour. My 3year old is more self sufficient.

I have to admit my 2YO could do most of the things your describing (when she feels like it) so this does seem a bit odd. I cannot believe at 6 her language abilities are so bad that she literally dossn't understand you or wouldn't school have picked up on it? Could she just really be lacking in confidence? Or could there be a more subtle language processing issue going on. Has anyone noticed similar? X

I'm pretty sure she does understand me that's that confusing part

School have commented on her being shy ect but I do not know the full story, as it's communicated to mum (who believes nothing is wrong)

However in preschool I do recall her getting taken out one to one trips for her to gain confidence in the community (some thing along those lines) . She would be encourage to say thank you to the shop keeper ect but again I don't know the full story.
