Ds is beginning to really drive me nuts
I think it is down to lack of sleep(for me), but he seems to have "woken up "in the last 2 weeks. He is into EVERYTHING jumping climbing hitting pulling DD hair.
He sleeps much less now and still wakes early. He was up at 5 this morning and still hasn't gone down for his nap yet, and when he does it has reduced to 40 mins. he is on the go non stop, and I am exhausted.
Feeling very guilty as am being very harsh on DD 2.10 for the most minor of things.
How much sleep does he need, Is it "normal " to drop sleep already?
I don't like comparing ages and development but I am going insane!!

fannyanne - my DS is 18mo and sounds just the same as your DS. He's into everything, he's chatting away, gets v.annoyed at the slightest thing yet expects mummmeeeeeeee to be happy etc etc.

I think its just a stage (and hope it doesnt go on too long!)

WriggleJiggle · 29/10/2007 13:46

ddseems to be dropping her sleep too. At the start of the summer we had managed to build it up to 1/2 hr nap in morning and 2 hrs in the afternoon. Now its more like 30 minutes in the afternoon. Also have a newborn to deal with - arrghhhhh.

How are you coping with the 'No!', 'Mine!' and temper tantrums every 3 seconds. Or is that just my dd?

fannyanne · 29/10/2007 13:53

Very badly
I remember it all with dd , no wait a minute she still is going through it too.
I can't believe I have two in the terrible twos!!!
My sanity - which I gained from having 1 and a half hours with only one awake has gone forever ahhh.

Oh the temper tantrums are the worst. If i am using a pen, he wants it and often has a full blown "Throw myself to the floor, bang head a few times for good measure and keep going until i get it" - I've now resorted to giving him the damn thing or hiding them from him until he's gone to bed!

Another is tea time, if i try to help him with his cutlery, he explodes into a rage.

Where did my quiet little baby go that liked mummy helping him!

dd's 18 months old. she only sleeps for half an hour just after her lunch around 12. and that's it all day. she does sleep well at night though, approx 6.30pm til 8am. i think she could actually manage without the nap at all. some days if we don't fit in in she's ok, knackered by 6 but ok. she's never really been one for naps, never had this 2 hours in the afternoon thing that people talk about!

wrigglejiggle, my DS is 20 months and since 18 months his favourite two words are "No!" and "Mine!" (the latter shouted out in a very aggressive growl about anything and everything he likes the look of). Hitting and biting mum are also high on the agenda. A delightful phase.

Fannyanne, he sounds completely normal. It must be exhausting not getting that nap break though. My DS, despite being a bit of a monster at the moment (so bossy and demanding and disobedient) still takes a good lunchtime nap. Do you think your DS still NEEDS more sleep? If so, can you get tough and try and get him to go back down after those 40 minutes? It might take a couple of days but it could work - if he still seems tired. If he is tired, then he might be getting a bit hyperactive.

Good luck!

MabelMay There is no chance of getting him back down , he wakes up and I know he is up as he is jumping in his cot.
I think I could cope a lot better if he wasn't up so early (5am)

Mind you since I first posted he has slept for 1 hr 45 so maybe it was a teething blip
thinks change so quickly with DC I can't keep up !!
