Baby not interested in rolling...anyone else?

Hello!
My DD is almost 6 months and isn't interested in attempting to roll over at all. She never really tries to she's happy just to lie on her back on the matt.
It seems most babies her age can already roll, is it normal for some babies to not be interested?

Yes! I always post on these threads but my DD was never really interested in rolling but crawling at nine months and walked at a year. Some babies just skip some of the steps (eg some babies never crawl), I wouldn’t worry (though I did at the time!) x

Mine also didn't roll much. She was just much more interested in sitting up and getting on her feet. She did roll tummy to back (occasionally) shortly after 6 months, but she was cruising before she rolled back to tummy!

If she's doing other gross motor things (pushing up during tummy time, starting to sit leaning on her hands or with a little help from you for balance, taking some of her own weight standing, etc.), then I wouldn't worry.

Yes she is actually much more interested in sitting up. She's been sitting for a couple of weeks with her hands now so does seem a bit ahead of the other babies I know her age so I guess that's her thing.
Thanks for putting my mind at ease

My DD is 8.5 months and still won’t roll over Grin

Just looked to see if there was a recent thread about this before I posted and so glad I found it. DD is 5.5 months and will not roll over (has rolled front to back twice). She is pretty confident sitting up and loves standing up aided. She can hold herself up when on her front but just will not roll. I'm glad we're not alone!

DS2 was like that. We caught him rolling over when he was about four months and thought that was pretty early. Then he didn't do it again until he was about 9. Was the same with walking. He would take a couple of unassisted steps for a reward (smarties) from about 13 months and was walking well holding our hands by then (eg to the shop). But we didn't see him CHOOSE to walk by himself until he was past 18 months. I think it's vertigo. He's like Donald Trump going down stairs or down a ramp. Otherwise very brave and boisterous and lively! Don't worry. Their little characters starting to emerge.

1 day after I posted that my DD still doesn’t roll over at 8.5 months, she learnt to roll back to tummy...

Now she wakes up at 4am to ‘practice’ her new skill and I regret ever saying ‘I wish she’d learn to roll already’ Grin

Hahah really. Yeah, like you're all for the rolling ....but not at 4am please lol.
Glad my lazy DD isn't the only one and maybe I should make the most of the peace in her cot atm!

My little girl is 4 months and not interested in rolling at all but is trying to sit up!

jdy123 · 26/01/2021 17:41

So my girl rolled today after not even attempting to ....she decided to try this morning and has been rolling all day!
Only back to front she still hasn't mastered front to back!

My little boy spent a whole day rolling front to back at 12 weeks and then stopped completely until 6 months when he rolled in both directions and started commando crawling all in one day!

SETRu83 · 27/01/2021 07:34

My little one is just gone 5mths and has no interest in rolling. She arches her back and lifts her bum up well. She’s getting stronger sitting. I’m figuring it will come eventually. My eldest was rolling and almost sitting at this point so that’s the only comparison I have ! X
