17 mo daughter gone off meal times altogether

Over the last 2-3 weeks my 17 mo daughter has been getting more and more of a pain when it comes to meal time. I know she is hungry but as soon as she's put in her seat she starts fussing. She's started wanting food of our plate and also wants to use the 'grown up' cutlery. Even when we let her, she still won't eat the food. I know she'll never starve (hopefully) but I'm not sure how to deal with it.

I tried to put her food on a plate instead of her bowl and although that almost worked, she still didn't eat anything, just chewed/suck then spat out.

She only got her first tooth about a month ago, which means she can't really eat grown up food on a plate yet. So our food always looks more appealing to her than her mashed stuff. I'm worried her brain has matured faster than her teeth!

Any words of advice would be welcomed!

my dd has also done this think perhaps its the teething doing it not to concerned as she drinking plenty of milk downed 3pints yest
you could try to give her soft foods thats not mashed like pasta really cooked sit her in highchair with her dinner on plate with toddler cutlery or start with something for teething before meal times!

she doesn't need teeth to eat proper food. no need to mash. she wants wants on your plate so why not give her some? as long as it isn't high in salt then go for it!

Hello,im new to this messaging game so bear with me......my son who is now 2.4 started off eating anything and i mean anything but he has gradually become more and more fussy.he will eat any fruit.any cereal and sandwhiches but trying to get a hot meal down him is like getting blood out of a stone. He wont even put it in his mouth!!!!My cooking is not that bad honest.I used to worry myself silly cooking a variety of meals for him but over the last couple of months if he doesnt want what he is dished up he goes without.I know it will all change and he will be eating me out of house and home again before to long.

Both my two went through a phase of only eating what was on either my or dh's plate (normally whilst sitting on our laps). AFter all if you are eating it with enjoyment it msut be nice. With dd1 we really fouhgt it and it lasted ages. With dd2 (22m) we let her when she wants to with no fuss and she hardly ever does it now (only when she is really tired).

She may also be trying to tell you that she wants proper food now without it being mashed up. dd2 was eating sandwiches, pizza, sausage rolls, meatballs, pasta twirls etc all without teeth from approx 9 months. They do their chewing with their gums, which are reaallllly hard (I found that out when dd2 bit me)

The teeth are under the surface, making the gums hard, so she really can eat normal food without difficulty. BLW wouldn't exist otherwise!!

She may, however, be teething, and it's quite common to go off food during this time.

Suggest you give her whatever you're having, and don't stress if she doesn't eat it - just give her more milk instead.
