2 month old snacking

Hi,

Please help... someone.... šŸ˜‚šŸ˜©
I’m a first time mum and I’m stressing!

My 11 week old daughter likes to have little and often, rather than a good few ounces every few hours (as recommended). It’s more like 60mls every 2 hours.

Is this ok or am I doing something wrong?

I feel like she does want to have bigger gaps in between feeds and have more of a routine to sleeping but I will never not feed her when she’s giving me cues for hunger. Is there something I can do to get into more of a routine.

Hope I’m making sense xx

Totally normal, she'll start spacing out her feeds more all by herself Smile

SazPops123 · 17/01/2021 21:41

Thanks so much! Thought that would be the case, but as per usual most stuff on the internet tells me otherwise. 😊

Yeh, give her what she wants. My 6 months old still snacks and has milk way more frequently than the internet says he should! I'm not going to refuse him milk/comfort when he wants it though :) my older son was the same and he reduced his milk fine at his own pace.

mum2b56 · 18/01/2021 05:59

My 11 week old is exactly the same. He'll only eat a whole bottle once or twice in a 24 hour period and the rest of the time it's about half or sometimes less, especially during the night. How often is your little one waking/feeding during the night?

SazPops123 · 18/01/2021 08:23

Thanks so much! Great to hear it’s normal x

She is exactly the same! She usually has her last bottle at around 10:30 pm and will wake up at 3 am for a feed and then will wake up for the day at about 7:00am. She has a little over 800mls a day. Past few days haven’t been so good due to her vaccinations 😩 x

Just wanted to get back in touch. I have used the next size up teat (2) and she is having loads more in one go. No spit up after. I do paced feeding with her anyway so that helps. Just wanted to let you know just in case it helps your little one too!

@SazPops123

Thanks for updating as ive just found this post and have exactly the same issue with my 3 month old! She even wakes up the exact times as yours i.e 3am and then 7am for the morning.
I will now try the no2 teats
What teats/bottles are you using?
Were using the Tomee Tippee anti colic bottles

SazPops123 · 18/01/2021 17:27

I hope it helps! We use Tommee Tippee standard ones... close to nature? Think it’s the same range just not anti-colic. I did see those in boots at the same time 😊. It was like she was just getting bored. She’s also the tiniest bit tongue tied so I think she was just loosing interest and tiring herself out x

@SazPops123

Can I ask how your dd sleeps?
Bcos our dd sleeps not settled yet

notetaker · 24/01/2021 07:43

Thanks for the update @SazPops123 - our DS is 9 weeks and has started waking every hour in the night from about 3am onwards for milk, but only takes a couple of ounces at most before falling asleep again. Hopefully the next size tests will help him to get more in before he gets too tired?!

SazPops123 · 24/01/2021 09:20

Hey! You just have to be careful because the flow is a lot quicker. Is he a bit tongue tied like mine? I mean our lives have changed (touch wood) now. She’s eating SO much in the day, I’m not worrying anymore. Still wakes through the night but it means more to not have the worry over weight gain and such...
I waited until she was 11 weeks to try it, but guess you could try and see how you get on? Whatever makes them happy 😊

Pretty well tbh. Last night was 9pm bed, 11:00pm, feed top up, 3am, 5:30, then 8:30am 😊. This is changing around quite a lot at the moment. But tends to be twice between the hours of 12am and 6am

My worry would be that the faster flow might make him bring more back up, but to be honest he does that quite often anyway. I’m running out of clean clothes šŸ˜‚
He is tongue tied which has only just been picked up on (after I’ve been asking the midwife and GP about it for weeks...) He doesn’t seem to have too much trouble putting weight on but I feel like that’s because we’re persisting with feeds.
Was there a particular reason you waited until 11 weeks?

SazPops123 · 24/01/2021 10:39

Honestly just because Tommee Tippee said so 🤣. Strangely she’s less sick now. I know that sounds weird. Have you done paced feeding? That tends to help as he will be able to take breaks. Mine dropped a centile line when we went for the 8 week check and the doctor mentioned tongue tie. I think that’s why she was getting so tired because she had to work a little harder and gave up at 60mls.

We tried it at the last feed and he actually brought up less than the feed before with the slower flow teat!
Did you have your DD’s tongue tie corrected?

SazPops123 · 24/01/2021 17:29

Amazing! Did he have more? DD has decided to go back to 2oz every feed today 🤪. She’s been seen by doctors and several different midwives whilst we were in hospital after labour who have all had different opinions whether she actually is or isn’t. I think it’s only very slight and she’s putting on weight now, so if it’s not bothering her I’ll leave it. I struggled with BF so have spent the last couple of months pumping away, it does explain a lot though.
