Hi guys!

First time mum, feeling a bit useless when my baby is awake, she’s started to be awake for longer and I can see her making eye contact however what can I be doing with her to make her simulated or develop?

What’s your routine with newborn 4weeks, from feeding, to bedtime routine? Do you keep days as light as possible and nights quite and dark?
Story times? Play mats?

Thanks all

Mine are way past that stage but your days sound pretty much like mine were with stories and play mat. Have you got a sling? Mine seemed to have a good look around in theirs and it meant I could go for a walk or get fill up the washing machine or even make a sandwich Smile

Thanks for your reply. I haven’t got a sling but actually looking this afternoon to purchase one as she has become quite needy lol.

If you do get one, I'd get a sling rather than a baby carrier as they are better for the hips Smile

We didn't have a routine as such at that age, feeding and sleeping just happened as needed, although we did do the light days/dark, quiet nights.

In terms of what you can do, talk to her as you do chores or whatever, sing to her. A sling or a bouncer you can move easily from room to room can be very useful. Plenty of time on a blanket or play mat to kick and wiggle freely. A lot of babies that age like lights or high contrast things to look at, so black and white patterns, things like that. You can get high-contrast baby books and sets of cards, but you could probably also just draw some patterns, smiley faces, and the like on paper with a marker pen.

That’s great info! Thanks guys I’m more or less doing those sorts of things just wanted to see if I’ve been missing something or could add in something different I like the idea of drawing black and white images as those books can be dear lol x

Ideas are hard at this age, but there's plenty of ideas out there on Pinterest..

Black and white images
Sensory scarves
Gentle noises like rustling etc
Lights
Walk around the house, show baby different rooms
Look at each other.. lie baby on your chest
Singing
Read books

Just pick a couple a day, take your time and notice what they focus on well.
