My LO is now 5 months and has started to roll onto his tummy at night time. No matter how many times I flip him onto his back before I have even left the bedroom he is back on his tummy. Should I just leave him be??

He is also when waking shouting for me to flip him as he has not figured out how to roll back yet.

Any advice or comments greatly appreciated

Hello,

I'm a relative newbie, in that I've been lurking for ahem over a year (how sad is that! LOL) But haven't posted much. I have a 21 month old dd, and nearly everything I have needed to know has been here already! However, I've been out tonight - hooray! - and I'm just back in and I've logged in and seen your post. All I can say is that my little girl always loved sleeping on her front, much more than on her back. Like you, I flipped her over as much as I could before she could flip herself, but fwiw, she was always happier on her front and in the end I left her to it (around 6 months, and I was bf so was going in to her a few times a night). She's nearly 21 months now and when I put her down to sleep - awake - she always turns round to her front. She's fine, and sleeps better. I hope this helps a wee bit! I think if he can flip onto his front, he's prob happy like that - the waking shouting for you to flip him is maybe just him waking, and shouting for you - not necessarily for you to flip him! Hope all works out well,

Lorraine x

I have a 6 month old who at 5 months flipped herself over and in the end I gave up. She does the same as your DD, Nyx, and goes from back to front. Shes sleeping much better and only cries when she ends up back on her front! I would leave be - as long as her neck is strong enough, which it is at 5 months, she'll be fine.

thanks for your replies. I have just been letting him get on with it as he seems to be more comfortable. I actually stayed in his room the other night for a little bit after I put him down and he travelled all over the cot from one end to the other on his back on his front his side basically every which way. So have decided that he is strong enough to wander about his cot he will be ok.

Just watch me in a few weeks time posting on how to stop them climbing out of the cot!
