..and that's not including something sounding alarmingly like "Bob the Builder". Is that very unusual?

DD1 could only say Mamma and Dada at 18 months old, now at 3 she never stops talking.

DD2 (probably from listening to DD1 rabbit on) is 21 months and has been talking in sentences for ages, she picks arguments with DD1 by calling her a boy, DD1 says no I'm a girl, DD2 no your a BOY, this goes on for about 5 minutes until DD1 bursts into tears. oh the joys!

Kewcumber, my dd1 used to love my singing to her, but by the time she was 2.5 she would say 'Mummy, please stop that horrid noise'

So I decided to be proud of her politeness instead of her musical savvy

furrycat, keep being proud of your ds no matter what he does or doesn't do - enjoy

Kewcumber · 25/10/2007 16:05

DS used to be very pleased to have me sing. For some reason he ONLY cries when I sing in the car.

Furrycat - think you are dead right to keep a record! I may be slightly obsessive with 3 baby books, a (full filled out, I might add) pregnancy journal, 8 full photo albums, a box of first clothes, all her cards (Christmas, birthdays etc..) I just think it'll be lovely for them to see when older (and lovely for them to see how proud you are!!)

Kewcumber

Actually, now you mention it, I think dd's aversion to my gorgeous voice was in the car too. She likes being sung to in bed still at nearly 4. Maybe they like to concentrate on other things in the car? Or we're stopping them sleeping?

Sorry for hijack...

my dd (18m) can say about 5 words clearly.....but will talk in her own language and expect you to know what she's asking for or telling you!! she said fifi (as in the flowertots) this morning and i was jumping for joy!!! and she still doesn't say mama or mummy!!!

my ds was having full blown conversations with us by 18mths, and at 2.10 now can say most of the alphabet and count to 20 unaided.....i ant wait till my dd hurries up and starts saying more so they can have little conversations between them- how cute will that be!!??!!

my son said his first word at 7mths and didn't stop since then!....he does seem to be a little boy genius but i'm sure he will even out with the others when he gets to nursery!!!

binkleandflip · 25/10/2007 16:18

It would spook me out a bit if my child talked really early tbh - bit like that baby on the toilet paper ads

omeN666 · 25/10/2007 16:25

Ds didnt speak until he was over 2.
DD1 is 22mths and can hold a conversation.
DD2 is 9mths and I swear sometimes she says hiya, yes,no,baba for dolls, dadda and mamma

omeN666 · 25/10/2007 16:26

to add as others have said they even out later on.DS while he was never hot on speech is fab at numbers, problem solving etc..he is 4 and talks permanently.
